Apologies for not having Googled but guessing I have several solutions here. I've just switched to Talktalk who gave me a sh1t router (although the BT connection still seems to be working and I haven't had time to set the new router up) To stream my media to XBMC across various devices I need a USB port, which the BT Homehub had. Do I:
b)connect to the BT Homehub somehow to use the USB while still connecting to the internet through the Talktalk one. c)buy my own router and if so which one?

I would usually go buy my own as the free ones from your ISP are not the best. If you are looking on the cheaper side then go for D-Link DIR-850L Wireless AC1200. It is not a USB 3.0 but still has one USB 2.0 The really good routers are 150 up where this one averages around 75.

Thanks for your answer but more concerned about the speed of the USB than the actual WiFi. My internet is slow anyway. Can't get fibre as they're digging up the roads fcuking about with all the other services first. Got some old routers in the cupboard. Might just see how quick the USB is on some of those before setting up the WAN. Edited by johnfirewall (07 Feb 2015 7.09pm)

If you find the speed on your old routers is not good enough (through the usb) there is an alternative untill you get a new router. It might be a hassle but most routers have a setting to turn them into modem only. Then plug your bt router into the talk talk one and use that to connect to all your devices. You will need to turn bridge mode to on for the bt router. Just google the talktalk router for a setup guide.

Did exactly that mate after Talktalk told me I could only get the upgraded router on an upgraded package (which I would've gone for as it came with a free mobile deal too, but they wouldn't let me pay extra for extra mobile data) Pretty good option for free. Posting from it now. Just turned WiFi off on the new Talktalk one. Downside is I've already got the one router sitting on the back of my sofa due to position of the phone socket, now I've got one the other side!
