Bali - Indonesia Holiday - Any recommendations?

Thinking about going there. Always wanted to go. Has anyone been? Any good hotels/places/travel agents for the flights that people could recommend perhaps please? Some people say the Gili Islands are good and to visit the capital; Jakarta, but am thinking to spend the whole hols in Kuta - Bali. Edited by eaglelad (25 Mar 2015 7.00am)

Kuta is basically the costa del Oz. If you like lively, with drunk ossie tourists, that's fine, but it's not really Bali. Travle the island - it's tiny, you can cover it all. The Gilis are more backpacker resorts, and far quitere, but to get there you need to go across to Lombok first if memory serves and it will take a while (I backpacked it, but it was 25 years ago!)

All the local women were grass skirted and topless in Bali a few decades ago. Now it's just the Aussie blokes.

Kuta is a dive. My opinion would be stay somewhere else on the Island. But then again, it depends what you are after.
