RIP BB. Got to see the man a few years back on a double bill with Gary Moore. Both gone now. Edited by lankygit (15 May 2015 10.18am) I didn't know Gary Moore had died, great shame - Blues For Greeny a great album.

RIP BB. I always thought he was overrated (and his best work ended 45-55 years ago) compared to some of his contemporaries who never crossed over as much into the mainstream and who died at a younger age( ie Junior Parker or Elmore James) but he undeniably was responsible for opening a lot of people's eyes to the blues and the originators of the music rather than the
A sad loss to music RIP BB Fair point...but,as an example, pity Willie Dixon had to sue for plagiarism to get royalties from Led Zeppelin for their "self-composed" mass royalty generating "Whole Lotta Love",taken from Willie's song "You Need Love".... Edited by legaleagle (15 May 2015 12.42pm)

Edited by legaleagle (15 May 2015 12.42pm) I was thinking more of the bands of the 60s, who were inspired by the ol' blues boys, if they hadn't covered their tracks, they would possibly never gained any fame. Also, the supertars of the 60s often repay them by way of working on their projects for free, there's great album by Jimmy Rogers that features Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal, Ted Harvey, Carey Bell, Stephen Stills, and Jeff Healey, amongst others.

BB King I really do see as "King of The Blues", his own virtuoso performances richly supported by sax and brass backing. Just a great sound i.m.o.

Old Fella, we're on the same page I'm not saying BB wasn't good, just in my opinion overrated compared to some others who died earlier without the level of fame.I think his best stuff was in the 50's.Do you know his small group record "My Kind of Blues"?When it comes to blues with big brassy backgrounds,I like the records Bobby Bland made. Earl Hines? Now you are talking.Have been listening to a lot of his stuff from the 60's in recent months. An album he did with Jimmy Rushing, one with Buck Clayton All Stars, and another with Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldridge. Basie? Love the stuff from the Lester Young era.The Atomic Basic from the 50's is not bad either. He did a nice small group album with Big Joe Turner in the early 70's. Though when it comes to "big band swing" I think Duke Ellington was incomparable. Muddy Waters? Was listening to "Sings Big Bill Broonzy" earlier this week.Never really appreciated Buddy Guy's solo stuff, though I like the stuff Junior Wells did with him.
