He is the sort of young, dynamic player who will win us points alone. But he's reportedly made it clear that any 'step down' to a club smaller than Inter and Bayern (i.e. outside of the Euro League) will be a short-term stepping stone to a club in Europe. Nevertheless, he has strong sell-on value and will bring us more success so, for me, it's a no brainer at the reported £12m. You never know, he could just push us into Europe and then stay!! COYP.

I guess its a question of how many millions are left in the Palace coffers in this transfer window? £7m for Wickam, looking for a CB, etc. Also,Imguess he would damand to,start, etc, destabilising Yala or Wilf. There can be too much of angood thing, inclined to pass on this one

This is a strange one as there is no doubt he is a very, very good player. However personally I want us to stay away from this one. As someone mentioned before, he would only consider dropping out of Europe for a short period, therefore he would only be using us as a stepping stone - there would be no loyalty and I would be worried about his work ethic. We also have 2 quality wingers here who I would not like to see moved out the team for anyone! If we are going to buy a winger, it should be a young one with potential that can provide back up to Yala and Wilf, like Ola John who we've been linked with.

...But nevertheless muddled. Bolasie is currently injured. If that occurred mid season, why take players out of position to take his place should?

Also, take Banford on loan for one season = good; take a player who may leave if a better offer comes in next summer = bad?? Assuming both come good [thus excluding arguments about goals, assists etc. keeping us in this division], Banford would be money down the drain; Shaqiri would command a hefty price tag. Both offer the same degree of loyalty.

However, if you were to say that we have a replacement winger in Lee and the money would be best spent on a top notch CB, then I agree that thinking.

Both Lee, Wickham and Punch have played out wide, but all have prefered positions now in the centre. So there there is a case for another wide player coming in plus a CB, sO I guess we will all ogin obsessively for a while yet!

I agree, atm I would class our back up wingers as Punch and Lee, however I would much prefer Punch to play in the middle. Lee is a solid back up option, but I feel we could do with another, and like I said before, a young one with a bright future. Comparing Bamford and Shaqiri in regards to loyalty is fair enough, however Bamford is a much lower risk. If we were to sign Shaqiri, it would be a large fee and he would be on hefty wages. Then if he doesn't perform we have a bit of a problem on our hands.

Quality player...I wouldnt give a s*** if he did use us as a stepping stone for1/2 seasons.

We make money & get a quality player for a season or 2.

If this rumour actually has an substance it's an absolute no brainer! Even if we made nothing after wages were paid.

I agree, this would be on a par with Cabaye, maybe even better. If the opportunity was there we'd have to make room for him in the squad somehow. That being said, I would be amazingly surprised given that there must be several Champions League clubs who would happily take him.

I can't really see why we would object to Shaqiri on the grounds of Wilf and Yala being good wingers? Surely, if we want the team to progress we need to be challenging our best players with other excellent players. Mutual competition and rotation is not a bad thing.

That said, if the coffers are limited and restricted I would hope Palace spend on positions which need first team enforcements. Notably, a new partner for Dann, and possibly a defensive-minded left back to rotate with Souare against the more attacking sides?

Think Chungy is more of a winger than a CM. Think we are alright everywhere except CB. To be honest when i read the link I was more excited about the bit linking us to David De Santon, think e would be an upgrade and has worked with pards before.

I think Shaqiri would be an incredible signing, better than the Cabaye signing in my opinion. Young, fast, skillfull, strong and can score some amazing goals. Did no one see him at the World Cup last year?

Chances are, if he turned down Stoke then he will turn us down too but if he signed it would be a huge step forwards. I'd see him playing behind the striker more than as a winger, he's got very good vision and creativity compared to what we have in that area so would supply a ton of assists and goals.

Seen a few views that say we don't want to replace Bolasie or Zaha, but if it improves the team then why not?
