Some good(ish) news on the Tax-Credits thing: There's a move to get a 'Fatal' motion proposed in The Lords by a Cross-Bencher which should see this nasty piece of legislation stopped short of becoming law. The Labour and Lib-Dem Lords outnumber the Consevatives in the Upper House and it's even possible that the Bishops might do a very rare thing and join in a vote against a sitting government. This is only possible because this cut in Tax-Credits was not something that was a Tory Election Pledge.....quite the opposite in fact. *HOORAY!*.........if it happens....... Some good(ish) news on the Tax-Credits thing:

It will save the Treasury something like £15bn in 2016-7, and those working families are now in receipt of free childcare, a vastly increased personal allowance and a higher living wage. I don't actually agree with the policy, but that's the line the government will use. The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It will save the Treasury something like £15bn in 2016-7, and those working families are now in receipt of free childcare, a vastly increased personal allowance and a higher living wage. I don't actually agree with the policy, but that's the line the government will use.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Breakfast and after school clubs for one child costs around £200-250 a month which isn't free. It appears that in reality working parents on lower pay will be around £100 worse off a month which will be a huge new burden for them. That is probably around a 5-7% drop in monthly income for them.
