How can people fall for this stuff - Hitchens called her right.

Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial

Someone in a really expensive fancy dress outfit in Rome bestows a meaningless honour to someone in a less attractive fancy dress outfit.

That's my take on it.

Can't really blame the public when they're fed guff from the media. It was beneficial to paint her as a saint, so that's what we were told.

Is it right that she publicly voiced doubts on her faith before she croaked? Seem to remember seeing that somewhere. Another snippet that's downplayed.

I've been watching a lot of Hitch's 'greatest hits' on youtube recently. I'm a big fan!

She did a lot of good. She deserves recognition. What harm does it do calling her a saint?

The idea of "sainthood" is nowhere to be found in the Bible, which is why Protestants do not go along with this process. The idea of the dead having influence on who gets healed is also something I've never seen in the Bible, and, as the Bible should be the guide book of Christians, I agree with others above that the whole process is a mistake- from both a Christian and agnostic/atheist perspective.

Saints stem from very early gnostic influences as angels and god, as 'dangerous to behold', as such saints served as a safe conduit between the divine and man. Protestantism never dealt with saints because they believed in a pre-destination of the soul, before birth, at least the founding protestants did.

She pretended to do a lot of good.

So she 'pretended' to found the Missionaries of Charity, active in 133 countries. They run hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; dispensaries and mobile clinics; children's and family counselling programmes; orphanages; and schools. All a sham then?
