I think the general consensus is that Campbell and Bamford (evidently from his lack of action) are not good enough for the level we're at now but everyone acknowledges January is not the perfect time to do business. Other than Remy or Austin, there aren't many other strikers available that are an upgrade or comparable to Wickham that can go straight into the team.

There are players that might be an improvement on Campbell that realistically we can get for just a few million.

Gabby Agbonlahor I've seen others mention is available.
Victor Anichibe, always been a fan. Can lead the line but hasn't played in PL since the opening day of the season.
Cameron Jerome, might be a little more expensive because of his importance to Norwich but could be done in a cash plus player deal.
Iheanacho, on loan

Danny Ings is the one I would try to prize away from his present club. Won't be cheap but that's not to say he couldn't be a bargain.

Liverpool only bought him in the summer, and he's now injured for the rest of the season.

What we need is someone to come in and hit the ground running, someone who can play the target man role if nothing else will suffice until Wickhams return. In my opinion, Jerome would still be perfect for us right now.

By the way, don't really understand this thread. Where we are now both in the table and financially, why would we want "cheap strikers"? We've got two of those already, if not more (Campbell, Gayle, Bamford.) What we need is an expensive, proven, goalscoring striker if we're to keep progressing. The player we need, unless we get very, very lucky is not going to be cheap.

I was thinking in terms of getting someone in early in the window. A big signing, if it even can be done, will in all likelihood take until the end of January. Also January is not the best of times to get in demand players for a reasonable price. Of course we'll be looking for that proven goalscorer but he may not be available until the summer. Last year we had to settle for Ameobi and Sanogo who were no better than Campbell. We need to upgrade the squad players just like we do with the first XI.

Jerome is so Crystal Palace would fit in wonder if Norwich would part if they go down the situation changes but hard to forecast.

Naismith still on the bench at Everton saw it reported that Villa offering £5.6 million. He pressures defences.

Our best forward at Bournemouth was Delaney how does it do it clean sheet as well.

I think the answer to this question may be forecastable as Norwich put in a big bid for Gayle just before the last transfer deadline. I would guess that if we offered them Gayle (I think they were prepared to pay about 10 million) for Jerome plus cash, they'd probably happily take it. I'd also welcome him back. He isn't the striker we need, but as a fourth striker playing off the bench he'd be a very useful addition and would add much more than either Campbell, Gayle or, for that matter, Bamford.

I would guess AP has his targets, but i would take crouch on loan, cant get a game for stoke, can hold it up and scores goals.

Short term fix.

I was about to say exactly this. A fit, motivated Crouch would be an almost perfect stopgap for the next four months. Scores goals; a handful; experienced. Then, we can find the right long-term solution over the summer. This would be a brilliant move.
