Rock'n'Roll Suicide -

[Link]

Incredible lyrical imagery in the build up to the raw emotion of THIS - (who knows how many lives have been pulled back from the brink by it)

Oh no love! you're not alone
You're watching yourself but you're too unfair
You got your head all tangled up but if i could only make you care
Oh no love! you're not alone
No matter what or who you've been
No matter when or where you've seen
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I've had my share, I'll help you with the pain
You're not alone

Just turn on with me and you're not alone
Let's turn on with me and you're not alone (wonderful)
Let's turn on and be not alone (wonderful)
Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful (wonderful)
Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful (wonderful)
Oh gimme your hands.

We are the goon squad and we're going to town. Beep Beep!

Though it is likely to take more than a few listens, the whole delivery and circumstance surrounding Blackstar could make it his greatest achievement.

I'm going to be unpopular here, but I don't care to be honest.

I was never a fan while he was alive and am not one (sycophantic or otherwise) now he's dead. Never really took to his music or imagery, was more into Paul Weller and the like as I grew up, then massivley into indie and dance music in the late eighties and 90's.

For me whilst he may have been ground breaking etc etc I thought he sounded like a badger straining a s***.

However clearly a massive musical influence for some, just not for me.

Er, yeah, thanks for that. Possibly one of the oddest posts I've ever seen. Radical as it may sound, but if you don't have a favourite Bowie track, perhaps simply don't offer an opinion on a thread called 'Favourite Bowie track'?

Back on topic, Oh! You Pretty Things still sounds fresh and from the more recent stuff, Where Are We Now could be a modern classic. And I definitely have a soft spot for The Laughing Gnome.

It's amazing, how every album, 20+ has at least one classic, one pop tune and something unique that you have a soft spot for.

i've been dissecting Blackstar all night and man..... it's definitely his most thought out work in ages - i was trying to explain it to my wife, it sounds pretentious to say, but it really is art, it's not just a song, it's a narrative with meaning, it's a story, it's a lesson... i dunno, such a shame.

Laughing gnome, Did you ever have a dream. Only cos it mentions Penge.

TVC15, Life on Mars, John I'm only Dancing, five years, Suffragette City, Rock and roll suicide I could go on for hours. Every album would have two or three tracks you'd listen to over and over again.

The loss of someone who could write some of the most brilliant music we will ever listen to.

Always makes me chuckle!

From the same era, 'She's Got Medals' - it's just not a proper night out if I haven't belted out a drunken rendition of this.

So many possibles for favourite as he's produced so much brilliant stuff! For me, perhaps Wild Is The Wind or No Control, This Is Not America, A Better Future, I Would Be Your Slave, I Know Its Gonna Happen Someday, Let's Dance, Always Crashing The Same Car, All The Young Dudes etc etc. Can't pick one out, sorry! He's gonna be missed big time!

Changes for me. I was a kid playing with my copy of Encarta 95 on CD ROM at the ripe old age of 9 and hadn't really gotten in to music.

I was browsing about and came across a clip of Changes which blew my little mind. Spoke to my Dad about it and he played me the whole song and everything else of worth by Bowie... Never got to see him though which I'm gutted about it...

RIP legend

With respect, wrong place, wrong time. Would you walk into a pub as it hosts a wake for a bloke and say - never liked him, but i will have a beer if one is going??

With respect ,,, You didnt know Bowie personnely, nor did I, I'm just not a fawning flower dropper.

And if I walked into a pub having a wake for bloke I didnt know, I would continue to have MY pint as per Normal.

Touchy little soul aren't we.

Yep. Definitely. And more than likely quite a few of them that got your mojo going. Paul Weller talks about one of his very favourite albums here and it's by Bowie [Link]
