I agree I think maybe it's our wage structure look at teams like Sunderland there poor but still sign players like Adam Johnson, Defoe and W.B.A sign fletcher and Evans because they pay well. Everyone seems to strengthen as you say and we scrape the bottom of the barrel and take the scraps others don't want or end up with the like of wickham. We've been told to stop thinking like palace fans and believe by SP and AP, but bar cabaye who have we and will we get, let's try and sign some people batshuayi slimani whoever. Players from good European clubs not the championship ect.

Wonderful support as ever. I'll tell you what, if are players are the bottom of the barrel, just imagine where the club would be if we were getting the top of the barrel!

Set up your own scouting network mate, you've got this "how good a player is" thing sussed!

Batshuayi Slimani whoever! Hilarious.

What's his post got to do with support, support is going to Palace every week like a lot of US do. It was his opinion that's all, like your opinion.

I think it has a lot to do with wages. If a club is prepared to pay huge wages then they can get real quality but if you are working within a tight framework and want value for money as SP does then things become very difficult. If the rumours that SP took a lot of persuading to sign Cabaye then splashing £15-20m plus 80-100k a week wages on a relatively unknown player from Europe seems unlikely. I for one hope we do get our big boy pants on but I'm not holding my breath.

I knew id get some hate ! I'm not saying are players are the bottom of the barrel just given options would you sign Chung young lee again ? Or Kelly? There championship players and we got them because they were cheap and fittest he squad at the time. My point is we want to improve on what we have and if we do it will cost.

I think our tactics to manage risk have been to buy three or four players from a level down with the potential to do really well in the Prem, for the same price as an established name from the Prem or similar overseas. We work on a numbers basis that one or two out of every four will pay off and we eventually loan out or sell the others or keep them as squad cover.

Lee was one that hasn't yet made the step up and may not, but Souare, Dann and Ledley have way more than justified their price tags. It's a much less risky strategy for a club like us than to spend the same combined fee as those three for Grabban, as stated in someone else's post.

Well actually he has as he played in the Premiership for Bolton for a couple of years. He hasn't actually been given that many chances to impress at Palace having mainly played 15 minute cameos but when he did start a game recently he was one of the most impressive players on the pitch and his reward was to be dropped for the next and subsequent games

Well there is also the location point which I think is often underestimated. We should be able to use the London location as a draw for players. Given an adequate wage structure, and all other things being equal, I suspect that many potential signings would prefer to be in the London area rather than up here where I live. There are many positives to living up here in the Dales but I doubt if they are the kind of reasons that would appeal to most 50k + footballers (no disrespect intended). It is a widely held belief amongst northern club supporters that our London base is in itself a big potential advantage. Given time, I think Palace will benefit from this as the main club in South London.

Bring in a Johnson or Evans in on 80k it won't just cost us 80k as the rest of the team will want rises!
We take low risk gambles some pay of some don't!
Puncheon
Dann
Ledley
Souare
McCarthur
Kelly

then there is
Fryers
Marriapa(not so much now)
Campbell

We have to remember you got to build a squad so some of the players like chung and Sako may not be players who start but they improve our squad.

I for now would like us to give some of our youth a chance but this is getting harder and harder in a teamer with higher and higher expectations and fans with growing short sight.

Everyone's in such a hurry for us to be a massive club, I'm really happy where we are and I think another 5-6 years of effectively being "Stoke" would do us some good. Plus, it's seemed beyond our wildest dreams, being here, when you think back to getting bummed by Millwall and Burley losing his job. Or being moments from not actually existing anymore.

I propose we just enjoy being the biggest club we've ever been for a bit longer. I'm perplexed more people aren't still giddy with the high altitude.

Here's a figure on a 'quality' player which may explain something..and if we are being financially prudent then all power to us..

Andy Carroll, the pony tailed sicknote has so far cost West Ham £45 million, yes £45million....his loan, transfers, signing on fee, agents, wages, bonuses and incentives - and his contract is still running.

Since Aug 2012 when he was on loan to May 2013 when it ended he played 22 games (so effectively around a season he played in only half the games)

Since his permanent deal in June 2013 he has played 31 games.

So in 3 and a half years he has played only 55 times which equates to a cost at the moment of £818,181 per game

In that time he has scored 17 times - £2.6m per goal

It's just frustrating when you see other clubs around us big and small going about there business strengthening there squad.
Newcastle are supposedly looking at Berahinio and Townsend. Them 2 plus Shelvey is some pretty good business.
This isn't a new thing with Palace, we clearly struggle to attract top players. Obviously not counting Cabaye but that was more to do with his previous relationship with Pardew.
This is the 3rd season that we are once again looking in the reject bin.

And no knocking hangeland great CB at Fulham and solid for us but he's almost done I'd take Evans younger faster champions league experience ect.

Difference being that Hangelaand was a free transfer in our first season in the division, who's nothing more than a squad player, and Evans was a £6m signing for an established side.

Dann v Evans is a much fairer comparison, and I'm absolutely certain who got the better deal out of that match up.

Oh here we go again. I usually keep well away from this but I am going to voice my opinion this time as some of these comments are ridiculous. We have a little spell where we are not over achieving and pushing on to get top 4 and all of a sudden we only buy 'from the scrap pile' and 'never attract quality players'. Really? Knee Jerk comments in abundance. Quit your jibber jabber springs to mind. It was only at the start of the season we were being commended for buying the right players and moving forward. Also, we are in a strong position unlike say Newcastle for example. They have to buy to try and avoid relegation... We don't. Therefore if the right player comes along be sure that Parish will pay the right money to bring them in. But let's not just buy for the sake of it. It would be better to save the cash to buy in the summer for the right player. It's not fantasy football. The owner isn't going to buy players just to appease knee jerk ignorant and stupid fans who think that brings success when in fact it will give us a squad of rejects again.
