Would Google's 3% tax bargain with HMRC amounting to £130m for last decade's worth of profits, lead to a potential conflict of personal/ professional interests with our Chancellor of The Exchequer? Why apparently YES:

[Link]

Oh, and the UK Boss of Google doesn't know what his salary is when quizzed today by Public Accounts Committee:

Furthermore, check out the behaviour of his brother not that George may be fully aware of his behaviour:

Finally, the next company on the name & shame for calculated tax avoidance is (drumroll) 'come on down, GAP':

Nice to know that HMRC and Osborne are doing their very best to maintain essential revenue for our public services....

Remind us how much tax Google paid under the previous Labour administration?

That is a moot point. Yes perhaps they should have done more, but talking about what a previous labour government (who were just as neoliberal as any Tory Government)doesn't actually tackle the issue. it is up to George and co to sort it out..

I assume that they paid a legally correct amount under both administrations.

Correct but the haters gonna hate.

The rules are the problem, not just in the UK but world wide. The tax laws just haven't kept up with the modern world.

Shock, horror. Previous Labour goverment, just as cr"p as the current government. What does that tell me? That they are all one and the same, that's all.

I'm tired of politicians using the previous administration as cover for them just doing more of the same with a couple of little tweeks here and there.

It's not about what went before, it's about what they are going to do now. Show us who you are NOW... Oh they have and it's the some ole thing. Self centred polititians in the pockets of big business.

SURPRISE !!!

^^ Is the right answer..

I have an idea about corporate/global tax.

If a private company trades in four countries or more then it should be considered "Global". Once a company is global, it should have to set a fix amount of income as tax, say 15% (could be a bit less, maybe more). Each country where the company trades gets an equal share of the tax pot. As the company trades in more and more countries, each country of trade still gets and equal share of that 15%.

The more countries a company trades in different countries, the bigger that 15% pot will be. Companies could plan a lot better, their tax costs would be simpler and it would encourage countries to attract investment to get a slice of their profits from the trade they do. It would also be a lot easier for those countries to get the tax they are entitled to as all you would have to do is look at the the overall profit a company is making to know exactly how much tax would be due.

Simple, open and transparent.

Probably none, but then New Labour might be the worst politic movement since the third reich. I prefer the tory's to blairs betrayal gang.

I think people need to see the bigger picture and look at how many people Google employ and how much tax is raised via PAYE/NI as well as them settling their Tax.
They are also a very good employer offering extremely good wages and conditions, their offices at Victoria are amazing.
But then again maybe we should just drive them away and let them set up somewhere else and employ people in another country.

Ok, so how is

a. A country going to attract investment when being able to set your own tax rates is a major way of doing this?

b. A company does 50% of it's business in one country and 10% each in 5 others, but they all get the same share of the pot?

It might well lead to companies paying tax, but all you will do is replace corporate tax avoidance with a reverse Nation based tax non-avoidance - every nation wanting an equal piece of the pie even if their roles are not equal.
