Used to love going there with palace, decrepit terrace, crumbling brick $hithouse and dodgy burger outlet at the back, palace everywhere including up trees behind!

Yes I remember it !

I recall the "Cuckoo Lane End". When I first went there, Gerry Summers was the manager.

It was a shocking performance. I was there!! Wasn't there a bit of a ruck before or after the match if I remember rightly?

Yeh. I remember that 5-0 drubbing as well. Pi**ed down the whole game.
Also remember the Manor ground for one of the funnier episodes of my Palace supporting life.
The Palace guys had just 'taken' the home end. (The covered end).
Given them a right pasting. I was walking back onto the terracing after a visit to the big as they were carting another Oxford supporter out on a stretcher. Covered in blood, he looked cup at me from the stretcher, pointed, and said "I'm gonna fu**ing get you".
Still makes me s****** to this day.

This photo is from our game there on 19th March 1977. Nicky Chatterton is our player, Doris is in the background.

Peter Houseman, the ex Chelsea player, was in their team and he sadly died in a car crash on his way home after the game.

Nicky Chatterton - Len our groundsman's son!

Len was famous for building the "flatterer" a converted fiat car into a pitch roller (mark I) and a VW Beetle (mark II) in the 70's.

He used to drive it onto the pitch amidst howls of laughter from the away fans... the VW broke down once and took ages to get it restarted and off the pitch!

The 70's..... Fights like that were going down across the length and breadth of the country.

Dr Martin's boots, levi jeans, monkey jacket and your scarf tied round your wrist as you went into battle on the terraces!

Scary at times, but exciting too.

You could never relax and watch the game 100% - you had to keep an eye out for an ambush.
