Just interested to see if you take a lunch break, how long you get and whether your company 'frowns' upon them. I work in the motor trade and most places I've worked lunch breaks are unofficially frowned upon. I realise there's fook all they can do and you don't get paid to work them anyway but was wondering what everyone else does?

I'm allowed a break in the morning, 30 mins lunch and break in the afternoon. Everyone takes their lunch although mainly at desks so am there if anything needs to be done. If I am working from home I won't take the breaks, just finish 30 mins early.

I try and take a lunch break, but it mainly consists of running over to M&S in Bromley and then eating at my desk whilst doing more work.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

Lunch is for whimps!!! No, seriously, it is important to take a break even if just 10-20 mins. When I have worked at companies where it is frowned upon I have just kept my breaks to a minimum

officially we get an hour but usually I am too busy so I just pop to the shops to buy food and eat at my desk. I like to make sure that I get out as a bit of 'fresh' air and a walk breaks up the day. I wouldn't say taking a full hour is frowned upon here but no one takes a full hour because we're so busy and it will probably mean working late to get things done. Sometimes I have to work through lunch. That said, today I took an early lunch, phoned my dad about Cup Final plans, got my haircut, and went to Tesco to buy some food, so it's swings and roundabouts.

Lunch breaks are fine but it’s these people who use the internet during work time that disgust me.

Depends if I am working from home or not. Typically at work I get an hour lunch, but working in London means I will always take hour and a half for lunch due to queues and walking. Working for a company but not having a direct boss means I get to decide my own times as long as I meet the directors targets, they do not bother me until deadline day. Probably spend 9-12 deciding what I want for lunch. That is the bigger issue.
