Trouble is, these 'laws' have been in force for years, just not enforced sadly. That's why we have, what most people will think, are new laws.

Yes, achieving consistency and fairness will be very hard. All the same, best news I've heard for a long time. Referees have now been given the powers to punish overt disrespect, and it's up to them to use those powers wisely - but ruthlessly.

I certainly hope this initiative is more successful than the ruling a few years ago in rugby that referees should uphold the (existing) law that the ball must be put into the scrum straight. It was ignored right from the off.

It's a good start, if all referees enforce it. For both sides.

I'd like to see any players or caching staff running on to the pitch to celebrate a goal receive a yellow. I'm sure the rules are already there but it never seems to be enforced if it is towards the end of a game.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

If upholded i see an advantage for teams like us as we tend not to crowd the keeper.. although i do notice a fair bit of foul mouthedness. Teams like Chelsea would be rolling in their sleep hoping more than half their players stay on the pitch

Referees will be accused of inconsistency as long as they continue to be inconsistent.

It's strange isn't it the calls for "Consistency" when it is adjudged that so called "Inconsistency" goes against one's team - If the "Boot is on the other foot" then there is silence !

Nothing new there at all. The problem is hat "these offences COULD result in a yellow card" in other words at the discretion of the ref. Discretion means that they will be open to accusations of bias because they let, for instance, Chelsea players chase them round the pitch, then book half the Burnley team because 3 of them asked if he was sure!

Well before long we'll be seeing our men sent off for "smelling of foreign food", "looking at me in a funny way" and "possession of curly black hair and thick lips".
