This idea is on the cards again. I wouldn't at all be surprised if cutting the size of the PL to 18 teams to accommodate this doesn't also rear its head again.

Apparently no chance this will happen for at least 5 years because of the commitments in the new TV deal.

I thought it was 3 years but yes it is definitely not on the table for immediate implementation. The only way it would seem to be viable would be dropping the league cup or increasing the by for each teams in the cups a further round. Or by reducing the number of teams in the league.

They should just leave it alone. A winter break wouldn't improve the national team, wouldn't improve the quality of the second half of the season and the clubs would fill the time with lucrative friendly or two. Liverpool played one in October once when they had a gap. The other thing is if we have bad winter weather outside of the winter break, you could end up piling up lots of fixtures.

It's a silly idea that pops up whenever England perform badly at a major tournament- so every 2 years.
