They want £75m for him. Are you mental?

Yeah but 75m now is like 50 last year. Take off 30 for bolasie and only 20m.

They are also signing other strikers too. Lukaku will score as many goals as Benteke in the premier league if not more. Would it be possible? Would you want Lukaku at Palace?

Porkair, please climb to level 320 now and trim airspeed to 420 knots, good day.

So here we are at the start of the new season with one target man and no strikers.
Good work guys.

If you were posting this kind of comment on 31st August, then you would be right. But Pardew said on Friday that we can expect two more strikers to come in before the end of the window (and personally I believe him) if Bolasie went, there would be a like for like replacement. My hunch (positive delusion for the sceptics!) is that we will see 3/4 new and better players come in by the end of the window. Eg if Jedi or Ledley do go to Villa, then someone will come in who will improve the first team as DM

Benteke I think is a better player than Lukaku, but both are overated/overhyped & well overpriced like most of the Belgium team.

Sign a striker from the lower leagues with some hunger & passion or play our youngsters instead of chasing these bloody prima donna mercenaries.

Problem is that it's a win based system and with your average Prem league manager lasting approx 18 months, then do you take time to nurture new talent, or just go out and buy someone who is proven and will do a job ... I agree totally your point but until the culture shifts to long term managers then it's always going to be the same, clubs can't afford to stick with a long term manager, to much money at stake, look at United there fans used to hark on about how they gave managers a chance beloved in youth and long term progression .. Fergi leaves and they have a bad season, reality bites, now on there 3rd manager in as many years .. Same will happen to wenger and arsenal when he leaves .. It's the money that's killed off the chance for long term youth and nurturing .. When the difference is tens of millions of £ between say 14th and 8th then £30 mil on benteke is good value in the stupid world of football

I am so tempted to have us abamdon our striker search and risk playing Ladapo. Stupid as that sounds. Imagine if it paid off and he banged in the goals. All that money on transfer fees, player wages agents fees saved. Money saved to really deepen/strengthen the overall squad "sigh" I'm such a day dreamer.

Suggesting Lukaku in this close season would've been bizarre. A year ago (when this was posted) when we were looking to sell Bolasie to Everton for £30m ish and were looking to spend that on Benteke, this suggestion was no weirder than 90% of the suggestions we get on here. Not saying I have an opinion on whether this guy is a troll or not, but this is hardly damning evidence.
