Had a takeaway via JustEat last night, and the delivery driver was half expecting a tip. I didn't give one, but I would have had I paid in cash rather than online.

It got me thinking: who and when should I tip? Without fail, I tip in a restaurant regardless of whether the service truly deserves it or not, and for some reason, taxi drivers do well out of me.

Being on holiday and certain countries bring different expectations, but what is the general British etiquette on a day-to-day basis?

Any advice on which professions / services (and generally how much) would be much appreciated.

Why would you tip a waiter for bringing your food to your table but not a delivery bloke who brings it to your house?

I never tip JustEat. I pay by card for a takeaway I fancy on a whim but also I get charged for delivery. They can f**k right off.

Whereas the girl in Beefeater the other day was really polite but we realised we had no cash. After we left and did our shopping, I got some money out and got it changed up then went all the way back to Beefeater to find her and give her a tip.

Tip good service but give nothing for bad service is a start. Plenty of times I have refused to contribute when service has been crap.
I usually give a bit to taxi drivers if they are helpful and waiters/waitresses if they are good. I sometimes buy a barperson a drink - especially if I'm drunk.
Tip a programme seller if they are a kid; get a Christmas gift for paper boy or perhaps postie if you want good service. These things are rare enough now though.
Abroad has all kinds of bollocks - especially US and Canada where there is a kind of flat rate 15% tipping required as everyone gets crap wages. My response and feeling about this is - start paying decent wages, why the hell should your customers subsidise your business expenses you piss-taking b******s?

Oh here is one. Do you tip someone after a massage? Our friend Emma is a qualified masseuse and we often wonder whether we ought to tip her. After all, the whole ordeal is a service so essentially her fee is the service charge anyway. I'm still not sure if we are right. After all, I do tip my barber.

I hope she is better looking than your barber - which is a massive criterion for tipping.

If you've paid by card they shouldn't expect a tip as it probably means you are cashless at the time, if you get one it's a bonus.

When I pay cash for food, haircut, taxi etc they get it rounded up. In a restaurant it'd always be 15% unless they've really messed up.

Does one tip a sparky? I didn't tip the electrician that did all my sockets for me, but want to use him again to do some outside lighting. Bit worried he'll wire it up to the toilet seat out of spite. I suppose that's what Check-a-trade is for.

Only if they gone over and above. i.e. you say you've had an issue with something they're not there for, but they do it anyway for no extra.

But it's called a drink not a tip, even though it's money.

Mine had a proper struggle to pull out a couple of knackered metal pattress boxes that were fitted very snug in the plasterboard but I guess that was considered in the initial quote.
