It's very important to realise if £9m Connor Wickham had been the player Pardew thought he was (and most people with a clue knew he never would be) we would never have signed Benteke.

We have splashed £32m on the Liverpool flop because Wickham has been absolutely terrible - one of the worst buys in the history of the football club.

In fact, so bad that last season we signed £100,000 a-week Adebayor as our new centre-forward for about four months.

That came on the back of the dreadful Sanogo the season before, who kept Murray out of the team until thankfully he got injured.

By the way Glenn then came in and scored a goal every other game, plus put in one of the best Number 9 displays ever seen at Selhurst Park vs Manchester City.

So, I make that around £43m to replace a Dougie Freedman free transfer.

Keep up the good work Alan!

£9 mil for a forward as back up is not so bad. It's because we were still trying to find diamonds in the rough that you and others think £9 mil is a lot. Well it's not. Not in the prem on a striker, and not even before the new tv money. (He'd be £12mil with that 30% added on)

If he wasn't injured and indisciplined with elbow on vertongen he'd have scored more last season and we might have fooled ourselves we don't need proven quality upfront in Benteke.

Not sure what your point is.

You're unhappy we signed Benteke?

You'd rather Murray was still in our starting XI?

Does Parish not also warrant attack for signing Wickham and Benteke?

Neither do I. Murray plays at top level till 35?

We shouldn't have bothered buying and loaning cheaply or lower than quality?

Now we shouldn't have bought quality?

Or shouldn't have spent the money and be stuffed.

Murray couldnt make the Bournemouth team but scores in the champ. Same for gayle. So what?

the way you're ranting is as if it's your bank account that's been plundered!

How many matches, since he left, has Glen Murray played a full 90 mins in? How many goals did he score for Bournemouth last season?

Whilst many off us were sad to see him go (and at the time, we should have kept hold until we had a replacement), you cannot seriously think that getting the likes of Benteke and Remy in, leaves us in a worse position?

Wickham is a different type of striker and whilst its not worked for him, he's had little or no service to speak of. Hold on to your lacy bits and watch the next few months, i'm pretty sure you'll bite your tongue.

This is the same Murray that only scored 3 goals for Bournemouth after leaving us and is now in the Championship, right?

Why do you think Glenn is playing at the Championship? Not only couldnt get a start at Palace but at Bournemouth. Indeed the latter were continually bringing in strikers over his head. Most people regard Eddie Howe as a pretty good manager. Do you know better?

Not dumping in Murray; he did a fine job for us when he was fit. life moves on and Glenn is now in our rear view mirror. I disagree with you on Wickham but anyway just because any one replacement doesn't work out doesn't mean the decision to upgrade that position is the right one.

Benteke wasn't a flop at Liverpool. Simply Klopp had other ways of setting up his team and didn't need the big bloke up front. Was Jimmy Greaves and England flop because Ramsey set his team up differently?

Also, Murray only scored 2 more goals in his first season for us than Wickham but played 3 times the amount of games. To write Wickham off already is just stupid.

Some people just don't want to watch the club move forward. Not every deal will work out the way it was intended but that's the same at every club.

We've got the best squad in decades possibly ever. And still people whine about wanting there favourite striker in the team.

Even tho he's obviously over the hill.

How anyone is actually still complaining about Murray being sold is beyond me.

Surely there's a button / function on here for idiot posts??

In defense of murray he scored 3 from 12, hardly any of thosr were starts. Benteke is a serious upgrade but still think murray would of been a good option still to have.

He wanted to play and Bournemouth came in. This was again the reason he was loaned out by Warnock.
