What's the world coming to? You have hate preachers spouting their bollocks & yet the authorities wont touch them for fear of upsetting peoples sensitivities but find time to prosecute someone for (albeit in bad taste) for a fairly Innocuous remark.

It's not even actually racist. Just obnoxious and stupid though was, obviously, racialist (aggravated) which is what he got done for.

If this had been the 1970's half of ITV would have been locked up by now.

The CPS originally didn't want to follow it up but some self-righteous w*anker/s appealed against their decision.

Should never have even been 'investigated'.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

What a joke. One or two around here have said much worse than this. He was just having a laugh not mocking appearance or culture. Even if taken the wrong way, I'm very uncomfortable with this going to the courts.

I get sad whenever I read a story about Gazza or see a photo of him. His life is a story that likely isn't going to have a happy ending. Episodes like this one don't help him.

It wasn't the so called "victim" that complained either but an allegedly outraged member of the public

That's what really grates my carrot - I hate when people get offended on other people's behalf. If the guard in question had an issue, that would be one thing, but if the victim just lets it slide (and probably just thinks "what a d1ck" then who are the do-gooders to deem it offensive.

Its the lack of proportion that concerns me. I think its ok to be 'offended on behalf of others' but proportion has to be a factor in that. Something's are just unacceptable, like a judge saying a rape victim 'should keep her knees togeather' etc.

But if its something minor, why get the police involved.

Living in the West Midlands the case was the main topic on the local news and BBC tried their hardest to whip up outrage and attributed quotes to the alleged victim that had quite obviously been made up for him.

By these standards Bernard Manning would have been sentenced to about 500 years in prison.

The law has lost the plot.

A comedian who wasn't actually racist, and had a very broad following among the Indian UK community. In the 70s about a quarter to half the audience at his gigs in Birmingham were of Indian, pakistani or Bangldeshi origins.

And unknown to many, he provided financial assistance to a young sick Asian child so he could get treatment in the USA.Was just a stage act with Manning.

I recall seeing him perform in 'Crystals' many years ago.Bob 'The Cat' Bevan was also on the Bill.
