Apologies if this has been mooted before (I did search two pages of General Talk, but life's too short) and accepting that I'm a newbie on here.

But (you knew that was coming, didn't you?), am I the only one who finds it frustrating that the only options to follow a thread are to go to the first post or the last post?

ALL other message boards I've participated in have the facility, when the user is logged in, to go to the latest UNREAD post in a thread.

This makes it so much easier to follow any particular thread. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm just not good at remembering what page I last viewed a particular thread on, even just a day later. Popular threads on here can grow by 20 or 30 pages in just 24 hours!

Or have I just missed how to do what I'm asking for? Happy to be corrected and shouted down if so. Also happy to be moderated and merged if this conversation has been had before.

Is this a bespoke site that cannot be amended easily or is the message board part of it an 'off the shelf' product that has a load of settings behind the scenes that can be tweaked?

Genuinely interested as I'm sure a 'go to the most recent UNREAD post' feature would be welcomed by all.

Wouldn't it?

No. It is very frustrating that I have to continually plough through posts that I have already read to find out what's new.

I think that the forum software is "home made" as most of the industry standard forum software has the capability that you are talking about

Stuff that I have read turns red, i.e. the topic title and the page number of the thread.

When I want to go back to where I was, or thereabouts, I click on the last page that is red or the first one that is blue.

I agree, so does mine but only if you always use the same computer. If you log on to different ones then you have to start again.

It does but I can usually keep track of them.

You can always look at your own profile to see what your last 10 posts were too.

I don't think the its possible to extensively modify the basic functionality of the package used that HOL runs on. At least not without recoding the source file of the base package its built out of.
