Pardew talking about Benteke:

“He has given an assurance to the team here as we now know that in him, Connor Wickham and Fraizer Campbell we have three strikers with not much to choose between them. Christian’s record though gives us an assurance that he is going to get the goals and the other two have to push him.”

Can he really believe there is not much to choose between them? For me Benteke is in a different class.

Of course he'd say that,

Imagine a more experienced person from a bigger firm goes to your workplace who's on a better salary and could put your job at risk, would it not be good human resource management to mention how vital each employee is to the company, so as to reduce unrest or dissatisfaction. Showing belief and loyalty which can improve work effort.

Well it looks like he has learned a bit from saying Cabaye is so much better than everyone that they cannot ask for the same wages.

Haha, Benteke is a different gear.

I know it's not a great comparison, but have you ever played in an amateur team that isn't great but with one classy player? The confidence you have knowing you can knock the ball to then when you're under pressure, and they too are under pressure?

I feel Benteke is like that. The ball sticks to him with the aerial balls and he's strong enough to hold.

Benteke >>> Wickham > Campbell.

Managers say what they need to say - all that matters is that when all 3 are fit, you'll never see Wickham or Campbell start a league game over Benteke.

Surely we'd want to p**s Campbell off in the hope he'd then want to force a move to Real Madrid and get of the wage bill? In all seriousness, I like him.. can't fault his effort as he gives 110%.. he is s***e though.

Wickham's a bit hit and miss.

Campbell always tries hard and wears the red and blue so he's alright with me. Don't get the hate some of our own players get unless they clearly can't be arsed. Yes some are not as good but we need all 25. We'd just miss some more than others.

Agreed. The point of a squad is that you're going to have players who will have to happy with a spot on the bench most of the time.

You would trust FC to give his all and try and do his best when he comes on. Which would be 3rd choice. As long as his wages are commensurate with that position then fine.

And he clearly cares - seeing him celebrate some of our goals/wins confirms he has a genuine desire to see the club do well.

But in answer to the original point, obviously Benteke is significantly ahead of the other 2, with Wickham some way ahead of FC.

With Benteke in the team you feel we are not only perfectly set up to utilise his target man/hold up skills (which Wickham possesses to a slightly lesser degree) and bring the midfield into play but you also feel we posses such a considerable goal threat that defenders are much more nervous playing against us.
