I honestly can't think of a player that we have had that is better in the air than Benteke - even take the goals he's scored with his head away, he rarely loses out when challenging, its borderline freakish. My struggling sleep deprived brain wants to mention Eric the ninja but that could be false memory - anyone else?

Yes he is great in the air. Mark Bright was also great in the air. Eric the Ninja was great but its hard to compare a center back with center forward.
Question i ask in regards to headers, Why does a Centre Back win most headers when defending but not when attacking?

All to do with the direction you are facing the ball, the number of bodies/blockers and when defending you don't really care where the ball goes as long as it goes away from the goal whilst attackers are trying to head the ball into a relatively small area. Think attacking defenders win a good percentage of headers but most go harmlessly wide of the goal.

..Wickhams header against Watford in that semi was equally as good as that header at Everton, never understood Klopp moaning at Benteke, he verbally destroyed him and rendered him useless...he will get the winner against them with his head, it will be very funny.

Yeah that was a great header but Benteke just seems to win everything in the air, its unreal.

Hope so!

Might just have been the age i was at the time but Jim Cannon seem to win every header he went for too. Worst has to be Richard Shaw, He ducked out of quite a few in his time.

Talking about great headed goals always reminds me of Mike Elwiss goal against Newcastle I believe , I can't remember a ball headed as hard as that.

Benteke is class for us and great in the air.

Roger Hoy.
I remember him scoring a bullet header from the edge of the box from a corner.
I have an idea we lost that game against Chelsea.
Sometime in the late 1960's

I'm not going to argue with the notion that Benteke is the best header of the ball we've had. I certainly can't think of others. Bright was up there, but think Benteke is better.

But actually Jagielka did well on Friday night. He won 11 of 13 aerial contests, compared to Benteke 9 from 19. First time this season that a defender has won more against Benteke than he has against them. And that's despite the fact we obviously targeted him as easier to beat in the air than Williams.
