Has anybody either had a contractor in to sound proof a party wall or done it themselves?

My place is semi detached.
The adjoining property is bed sits, I think the layouts been altered as I've now clearly got a kitchen sink & cupboards against the bedroom wall.
Getting woken up most nights by their clunking about & the squeeling sprog in the adjoining room.
probably just going to stick a sound proofed plasterboard & decorate but would be interested if anybody has experience or actually does this as a trade?

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Having personally suffered the neighbours from hell problem, you have my every sympathy.
Based on my own experience,do not think your plan will significantly deaden this noise pollution and often, the only solution is to move home.
You can go to the 'woolly' Council and report the issues to Environmental Services, but they never seem to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
Have you spoken to your neighbour politely pointing out how their noise is affecting the quality of your life.It may well he, although in my own case, it only inflamed the situation.

Sticking Soundbloc board to the existing wall won't do much. You ideally need to build another wall with an air gap between the two. Some insulation in the void will also help but don't pack it full of it or it will transfer the sound.

If you can afford to lose 3/4 inches of space that's your best solution.

Oh and never go to the council about it, unless you're in a council property, as you have to declare you've got noisy b******s next door when you come to sell it.

I've 11 bedsits next to me.
people usually move on every 6 - 18 months.
In general not bad, its just the small sprogs.
the adults often don't work, so they stay up late, usually means the sprogs are running about to 1am or so.
its totally screwed my sleep up, as I often go to bed 9ish and get woken around 12-1 by the current occupiers.
It'll change again in a few months but its screwing with the viewings of my place.

I'd use a gypliner system, without bracing it to the existing wall. Track on all four sides and then fix the studs top and bottom only.

I don't suppose you're near Croydon and fancy an extra bit of work Stuk?

My first thought - KDOTW wants a noisy sex room.

I stick by it.
