Anyone else think that he isn't upto it? Been consistently our worst player for ages now.

There were loads of players not up to it yesterday and no point singling out one individual.

Gives 100%, has some great moments both defensively and attacking but if we want to make the step up that we have shown with Benteke, Townsend, Cabaye then we need full backs who are very comfortable on the ball, which Ward clearly isn't.

So did Kelly, Ledley and Damo so why single out Ward,collectively we were not at the races in the first half.

I think the difference is that those other names are not the first choice in a fully fit side, Ward is and has been our undisputed first choice RB for the 4 and a bit years he's been here, he needs competition.

He is a solid but unspectacular player and has been a great servant to the club. He's doing alright for us but I think right and left back are two positions we should be looking to upgrade

Don't really get the point at having a dig at him. Who would you replace him with? Of the back 4 who played yesterday Ward is the only one who the manager has fielded in every league match. He isn't the greatest defender but I thought he was amongst our best players against Everton and has shown glimpses this season of his best football. Ward isn't the problem nor do I think he is a weakness; he's good at some things, not good at others, what's the point in laying your frustration out on him?

Ward CAN play better than he has the last year. If he's going through a slump, I'd keep him, because he has shown he is capable of much better. If he doesn't this season, then I think next season there is an argument to upgrade his position.

I agree he is one of our weak links, particularly in possesion. And no, thats not just after the game yesterday in which he frankly was very poor. Originally posted by Casual
