Being invited for this check up at local surgery,at age 65,pleased to say the nurse concluded I was in very good shape with all readings normal, bmi, blood sugar etc.
On conclusion, she suggested a further blood test to determine my psa reading which came back at 3.3.The GP requested another reading after 6 months and this is now increased to 4.4.
Had to go undergo the DRE procedure last week and was told all was normal other than yet another blood psa test is recommended in another 3 months.
Should I have any concerns at such levels or am I just slightly concerned over nothing as it seems difficult to find any clear information, other than prostate cancer affects some 40,000 and kills over 10,000 men every year?
Curious to hear of anyone else's experiences.
Thanks.

Hi Jacey yes I have had personal experience on this as 14 years ago I has prostate cancer and underwent 3 operations and radiotherapy. I was in remission for a full 13 or more years up to about eight weeks ago when my PSA level reached 15 and it was then that my cancer specialist wanted to see me again. he said that it had come back and I am now under going treatment again for cancer. This time due to having very heavy radiotherapy last time I have been put on tablets and 3 month Intramuscular sustained release formulation injections. I have been on this four or five weeks and the side effects are not good. But if I am to keep on watching Palace for a few more years so be it I have to put up with it. Your reading is very low so I would not worry yourself too much. My readings went from 2.3 to 15.8 over 13 years and I am sure that your doctor knows what he is doing. The men you mention who die each year are the ones who have been diagnosed late and treatment is not good. These days you are more likely to die of a heart attack or get knocked down by a car/bus.. Now you are on the radar at your doctors you can be sure he/she will keep a close eye on you mate. I had blood tests every 6 months to keep an eye on mine and that's why I was called into my local hospital Oncology Dept to get sorted this time when it reached 15.8. By the way having high readings does not mean it is cancer it can be just a swollen Prostate and medication can take the swelling down. Normally a biopsy is done when they think it is cancer. In my case it was originally. Hope this helps in some way.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Did they not do a full blood work up then?

If not I would ask for this because all your tests you listed could be fine but it doesn't mean you do not have anemia due to a low vitamin this is very common in this country due to lack of sun.

As already mentioned your PSA figure is not too high though the doctors are more concerned about changes rather than the base figure. I am currently nearing the end of 37 radiotherapy treatments for prostate cancer that was diagnosed following a PSA test at a general check up like yours, my initial reading was 61 though and that seemed to set off alarm bells as I was seen by a specialist within a few days!

Don't worry yourself with google searches, I found all the information I needed on the Prostate Cancer UK site

Good luck.

Thank you all for your replies and having spoken to the local surgery today following my blood test a few days ago,my psa reading has actually dropped from 4.4 to 4,which at the age of 65,is probably considered normal.
Surprised it has gone down slightly, which is good news.
Since the last test in October, increased the exercise and have taken Pomegranate and Green Teasupplements, which are supposedly helpful,if diet helps in any way with this problem.
Take care one and all.
Regards.
