Good on the prime minister having a go at Fifa today.
BUT a simple solution could be get the players to wear a dummy tattoo of a poppy on there arms / legs .

Might be a idea for a money making addition to selling poppies for the kids.

If you don't wear a poppy Ms.May will tell the poppy police to give you a white feather and send you to the trenches.

FIFA are overstepping here. They have no credibility as an organisation and the sooner the big countries break from them the better. Sadly, like the EU, many of the people involved are riding the gravy train.

As far as I am concerned the wearing of poppies is not a political statement but a mark of respect for service personnel who gave their lives for their country.

Respect is paid for other matters when players wear black armbands etc etc so why not allow a show of respect for those now sadly departed.Makes my blood boil.

Maybe this will be one of the subjects on 'Question Time' tonight.

What is FIFA's justification for not allowing it?

Obviously its a corrupt organisation, but as a international representative body, there may be I guess issues, where maybe the poppy represents something different in other countries (or could be construed as offensive - say Japan or Germany)

We are not playing darned Japan or Germany we are playing another British team with British supporters in the stadium. If other countries find it offensive so be it.

Well done Arsene Wenger for these comments :

"By wanting to be too politically correct you can go sometimes against tradition," Wenger added.

"In this case, I think that is part of the English culture that I love. They respect tradition and they respect people who have given their life for the country."

The sad thing about that is that both Germany and probably Japan too would respect our decision/request to wear the poppy and take no offence at all. Most of the modern day populus of both countries are ashamed of their history in 'those' matters.

FIFA are a farce at best.

Fifa right.

Nothing to stop swastikas and other nasties if they allow it.

The black arm band denotes the captain there is no need for anything more.

Playing to the gallery PM.

Poppy police stopped me this morning I am still not wearing one, cheap gimmicks.

Agreed. Much as it is tempting to tell FIFA to go f*ck themselves, maybe they have a point about the can of worms.

I’m sure they would have poppies on the training jackets they wear pre-match, I’m sure there will be some kind of poppy wreath ceremony before the game and a minutes silence.

These stick-on football shirt poppies didn’t even exist until a few years ago. Seems like a non-issue to me.

yep got to agree , the whole controversy over if you wear one or don't is totally over shadowing the whole point of the observance of armistice day
