One of our biggest problems at the moment is we have no leader on the pitch. Someone who can organise the defense at corners, who can scream at players not to push forward when it leaves us vulnerable at the back, who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck. Why the hell is it up to AP to try and get a message on the pitch to put a man on the post for a corner. As much as I love dann why wasn't he doing that? We look completely lost at times.....and please don't turn this into a Jedinak thread.

Leave Jedi out of the post. We all know he's one of the greatest leaders this club has ever had, but he wasn't going to be playing, so he wouldn't of been the answer even if he'd stayed. Although conversion to centre half could of been an option? s*** I'm turning it into a Jedi thread.
In answer to your question, we appear to have none. I really think everyone was expecting a ball to the edge of the area. Still can't believe the man on the corner of the 6 yard box was not positioned as they still have some height in there. Totally suckered punched, but we are mentally weak back there right now and we constantly #findawaytolose

It's impossible not to bring Jedinak into this conversation. But I also think Delaney is a better captain than Dann, Dann was ok yesterday in pushing the defence out etc but he doesn't command players into position or rally the troops like either Jedi or Delaney did. Also I think the leadership from the GK position is a problem, shouldn't Hennessey have told someone to stand where De Bruyne passed for the 2nd goal? Especially after we'd nearly conceded from the same routine corner. This also applies to Mandanda who's had a few similar instances.

Puncheon is actually one of the better leaders in the team but more leaders need to come from the back 4 and goalkeeper.

Jedi lover here - but he has gone.
He has not been replaced and we do not seem to have a leader or organiser on the field.
I was unable to attend yesterday but I have seen the goals ad infinitum and they are scary defensively.
AP says he doesn't care about clean sheets - he should do - a lack of them will get him the sack very shortly!
Dann obviously does not lead otherwise the second goal yesterday would never have happened.
Hennessey - and I do not blame him by the way - was yelling (obviously not loudly enough) to get the near post covered and no one listened.
Under a dynamic Captain that would not have happened!

Well you would have thought Cabaye as Pardew said once he is the man that let's him know what is going on out there.

Over the 2015-16 season with Jedi in the team:
W4, D9, L14 (or 0.78 ppg)

Jedi out of the team:
W7, D0, L4 (or 1.91 ppg)

Whatever class he had, had gone.

As for leadership, clearly it's not as important as people make out. If it was, results with him in the side over the entirety of the last two seasons would have been better.

Spot on. Dann is the captain and is right in the thick of the action at the back. No excuses not stamping his authority back there. Relying on messages from the bench isn't practical under match conditions. Total amateur hour back there. If he's not willing/unable to fill this role then change him. Judging by the second goal I'd put Hennessy as captain, at least he seemed to understand the danger.

I really, really, really hate saying this, BUT, if his contract is paid up and he's available instantly I'd take Barton in a heartbeat. Yes I know he's a knob. Am I going crazy?

I'm glad that these stats are out there.

The game next week is absolutely huge. We need to pick up three points and given our display against City, which was great going forward, I think we will. Genuinely.

I have a degree of faith in this team. Losing Souare was a massive blow to us. We should have had back up in that position because Kelly as we know is simply not a left back. That is poor on Pardew and I think the board's account not to have real backup there.
But players like Dann, Wilf, McArthur, Cabaye and Benteke are Premier League players without a doubt. We didn't get a hammering from either Liverpool or City and that speaks volumes. However, defensively we've been woeful and we just need to pick that up. Otherwise we really are going down.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.
