I know I risk seeing this deteriorate into the usual "Pardew In, no f*** off Pardew Out, you knob" debate. But let's try and keep that to the other post.

What I would like to understand is why is Pardew so polarising?

The longer this goes on the less he polarises opinion.

In fact last night's substitution seems to be creating considerable consensus.

I can't help but think it's just a case of every debate on this forum having to be polarised now...and maybe that's really just an extension of society. Not many people seem able to admit "well, I'm in the middle somewhere on this one" these days. People seem to have to develop a passionate and polar opinion on every subject, often it's purely motivated by the joy they can derive from contradicting the other person.

I was in the middle from about Bournemouth half time, when I thought we would be OK but we needed an upgrade as and when, until Burnley, when it was clear to me what a 24-carat plonker he really is.

30 years making a handsome living doing jobs we would walk over broken glass for when younger.

If he is a plonker he is a smart type which, logically, means he can't be one

I do think you make a very good point, it is always easy to find the fault but not the remedy, hopefully we are all true and loyal CP supporter who really only want our team to be successful in a modest way, most of us accept our current limitations and only want the team to have moderate success in PL even if that means holding our own in the bottom half of the table. AP needs to better explain himself as clearly some of his decisions towards the end of games which we should have one but have lost have in a large part been down to decisions that have not been fully explained but from the sidelines seem to be controversial to say the least. The trends have also been a concern with some saying the last 12 months form is not important when clearly it is. important. Also of concern is the last 10 games which have seen us win only once. If AP could explain what his plans are to correct the situation then this would go along way in helping us all understand the current very worrying situation.

I think that's pretty insightful and not resticted to this forum, social media has become such a toxic place, where nuance and subtlety give way to anger and personal insult.

Maybe getting a reaction is the point these days, the only validation they need to believe what they are saying is right.

Whilst there may be an element of truth in what you say I think that the "polarisation of opinion is much more pronounced on a football forum as everyone seems to feel that they are experts and only their opinions matter which is why one sees so many posts effectively saying "I am right and if you don't agree you don't know anything about football"

Anywhere that allows you to hide behind a keyboard. It's the same on Facebook.

You make a good point. He would definitely do himself some good by explain what transition we are going from and to, as well as share his timeline for it. Likewise his substitution and tactic choices would maybe give us all and idea of what he is trying to achieve, but few managers do that, although Dyche did do exactly that on TV the other week.

Likewise his arrogance, which is often sited as a reason for people disliking him but yet there are more arrogant than him in the EPL (mourinho for one).

So neither truly explains his polarising nature for me.

I'm still firmly in the middle, the quality of the PL is sh*te this year, I really can't see us going down but I expect if things are still extremely bleak in the run up to Christmas Pardew will be sacked.

I expect managers are waiting in the wings, preparing to take over and looking at the transfer market. I appreciate our board giving him time as it's too easy to pull the trigger these days but they will be anxious.
