I went there years ago when the kids were little, seemed very popular for lots of water sports, especially surfing and kite surfing. Just googled it and it's well up there for places to go.
That along with nude Germans are my only memories of the place.

Fuertevenura resort called El Cotillo is where it's at

Obviously you'd need to check sea condtions but this is where the waves are normally found, Nice hotel is the El cotillo beach hotel it's all inclusive is cheap and cheerful.

Have been there countless times & worked there I used to believe that it did indeed mean strong winds but speaking to a local in a restaurant who said it meant strong fortune.
However as you'll see a lot still think otherwise but

Strong (Fuerte)
Wind (Vent)
ura??

I suppose it's better to belive the local
