.. we also need a full back and a central midfielder who CAN HOLD THE BALL!

The leader is an obvious choice: John Terry, but if not him then Michael Carrick (out of contract this year)

A full back? Ben Davies ? Robbie Brady ?

A holding mid fielder ? Frank Lampard - he can do it and will not be handicapped by his age in this role. Other candidates for the short term: Scott Parker, Lee Tomlin, George Boyd, Ben Watson, Stephen Gleeson even our own Chungy Lee. Any would be a vast improvement on Puncheon, Cabaye, Ledley, etc

What worries me is that we don't seem to be able to find 'discoveries' in the lower leagues or abroad - our scouting system (if indeed we have one) is in need of new blood.

Based on what we have all witnessed this year and last. 2 holding midfielders who will cover back when an opposition player runs past and two defenders at least. Full backs. Our current pair are too exposed by our poor midfield performers. This should have been sorted at the start of the season rather than throwing all that money at one player who frankly does not look up to it based on the way we want to play. I fear we may attract similar players to what we already have.

Since Dann has been given the Captaincy his game as the lead Defender has suffered. It obviously does not suit him and being a leader does not come natural too most and definately not him. Good leaders are hard to find.
Dann needs to concentrate on Marshalling the appalling defending that we have witnessed this season and recapture his form of last year.
Therefore i agree we should bring someone of the ilk of Terry or Lampard. However will the aforementioned have the passion for Palace as they did for Chelsea and the desire which wanes with age.
I think the answer maybe to eat humble pie and bring back Jedinak and fill the other team places with the battlers.
At the moment with the exception of Zaha , the only 2 players i have seen chasing the ball down with any passion is Lee and Campbell , the latter not really a PL player.Maybe an introduction of youth and a big slice of 'kick up the a***' with the other players will suffice.
Lets hope Alladyce has the 'balls' to take the captaincy off Dann and has the contacts to bring in at least 4 new players at least with battling quality.
Agree , the scouting policy seems to be lacking !

I'd love to Defoe to come over, a real goal poacher just like someone we sold not so long ago, WHOSE NOW THRIVING IN TWO UP TOP.

AP you cock.

Bring back Jedi

The loss of Jedinak has had a bigger impact than anyone realised. A true leader, not replaced.

As much as I think Pardew made mistakes selling certain players, we need to stop looking back and moaning about it and look forward for new players who can make a difference. Gayle, Jedinak and Murray are gone, let's move on

Jedi - Not good enough to make a difference in the second half of last season. I rate him, but he's basically only made 10 appearances for Aston Villa this season (playing in less than half their games).

Murray - Couldn't get into a Bournemouth side other than from the bench, but doing the business in the championship. Does anyone really think he's a better option than Benteke or Wickham. Even now he's struggle to get more than appearances from the bench even with Wickham injured.

Gayle - Ok I think in a 4-4-2 with Benteke he could have been deadly. Probably a mistake, but lets be honest, it hadn't really worked out for him.

Should nick Obiang off West Ham. Him + Jimmy Mac.. it could be beautiful.

We need more than 2 players, we need about 8. Our squad has no depth to it AT ALL as we saw yesterday when the 30 million pound man was rushed to A&E because he was so embaressed about his performance, the next best came on.. FRAIZER CAMPBELL!!!

Fair play to Campbell cause he tries his hardest. He's just pants.

That's a little unfair. The squad had depth at the start of the season as we had a choice of strikers from Benteke, Wickham, Remy and Campbell and it was extremely unfortunate that numbers two and three have suffered long term injuries

The mistake wasn't so much getting rid of Jedi who is one of my favourite ever players, the mistake was not getting an adequate replacement. I don't even mean skill wise (he is limited), but character. We still have some real spirit in the team but losing has become a habit and like a lot of teams, when that happens we can't catch a break. e.g. Some poor reffing decisions that will add anxiety to the already low confidence.

I don't think we need too many more players, talk of 8-9 like on some threads is fanciful, particularly for a January window.

Assuming no one leaves a few very good players are all we need. E.G. LB - we shouldn't be looking for someone to fill in for Souare, we should be looking for someone significantly better. Pape can be back up if he makes a full recovery. That approach should be replicated across the pitch over several windows.

the dignified don't even enter in the game
