I have noticed over recent years that referees no longer seem to award INDIRECT free kicks . Obstruction or impeding the progress of an opponent is an indirect free kick yet refs now give direct kicks for this offence . Likewise with dangerous play , an indirect free kick according to the laws but not todays refs . Maybe they changed the law and I missed the announcement Anyone?

Everton game Lukaku free kick should have been indirect yet was allowed to stand. I'm at a loss to figure it out mate and you wont get a straight answer from the FA and nothing from the refs. Remember every offside is an indirect freekick so they do still exist.

So many of those rules are never adhered to though, with no consequence.

Well thanks ,but we seem none the wiser . I thought maybe they had changed the rule on free kicks or Willos link quite clearly states the rules are unchanged so whats happening ? Have the refs taken it upon themselves not to award indirect free kicks ? It is something as I said have been noticing more and more until it is now almost impossible to remember the last time a free kick was awarded within shooting distance as indirect . Its a mystery .

It seems to me that so little now falls outside of the rules for a direct free kick (or their interpretation) that referee's simply can't be bothered to make the distinction.

I also thought the Puncheon foul outside the box away to Swansea should have been in direct?

I'm of the view that foul throws are no longer part of the game....
