Sam Allardyce identified Christian Benteke as one of the main reasons Crystal Palace have turned around results after their home victory against Watford.

Good man management. Trying to get his confidence back. He should have scored today but too reluctant to shoot.

Sam Allardyce is the reason we're on an upturn.

Those remarks seem spot on to me. Perfectly right to point out that a centre-forward does about 100 things apart from putting the ball in the net and Benteke did 99 of them yesterday. And Sam observes that its for "us" (the coaching staff) to get him scoring again; his predecessor would have chucked him under the 'bus. But then of course his predecessor wouldn't have been commenting on a victory but excusing another feeble defeat.

I agree. By my account he could've and really should've had a hat trick in the second half and put Watford away. I've been asking this all day yesterday, why is it that you think Benteke is SOOO gun shy and unable to pull the trigger??? It just can't be confidence can it???

Most would I think agree his off the ball work often goes unpraised but he does a lot since SA arrived, not so much before that TBH

I agree Christian Benteke's work rate off the ball goes unheralded by may Palace fan's.

You'd be surprised how big a factor confidence is. His most glaring opportunity (where he should've hit first time) was wasted by his hesitation, which is caused by his lack of confidence. A confident Benteke scores that and perhaps gets another; you have to remember that Benteke hasn't been great since he left Villa almost just over a year and a half ago.

Good management. He knows and I assume so does Benteke that the way we have to play for the rest of the season is going to see him isolated a lot and doing a lot of thankless running. It's not suited to him flourishing, but it's for the good of the team. Tekkers is showing frustration and he has to keep him calm. He will score some, but we are in for a fair few one goal bum twitchers between now and the seasons end.

He was not bought for his work rate off the ball but to score goals, this is in short supply. It's his all round game which, needs vast improvement. As I have said previously he has gone from being a beast to being afraid to run at players and a shadow of his Villa form. Whether this is down to confidence which, can hopefully return through hard work and good man management or that form being left in the past never to return, who knows and only time will tell!

If Wickham was fit I'm sure he would be playing but he isn't and so we have to go with Benteke but he really isn't doing it. Sam obviously has to praise Benteke to try anything to get him playing better. However to say that he is key to our recent wins is a joke. I've seen more effort from the bloke in Timpsons. He never seems to break sweat and blames everyone else but himself.
I really hope that Sam's psychology works as I'd love to see Benteke scoring freely for us but personally I'm not having this key factor nonsense !

I have to agree with you. I am not currently seeing 30 millions worth of a player. He can run around off the ball as much as he likes but ultimately he has to be judged on what he does when he has the ball.
