Palace ae effectively five points above Hull because we have a much better goal difference

Yes and Middlesbrough have an even harder last 5 or 6 games than we do. For some reason nobody seems to mention that, only our hard run in. To be honest both Sunderland and Middlesbrough are toast. There is really only one place left between about 5 teams (up to Watford)

With that gap, if we win 2 games; Hull need to win 4, and middlesborough 5+

Their next 3 games are Swansea (H), Hull (Away) and Burnley (H) which are all winnable games. Ideally they would draw with Hull and Swansea and lose to Burnley. In which case they would be finished.

Hull's next game is Wet Spam at Home before Boro also at Home. Both are winnable.

By the time we kick off against Arsenal in 3 weeks the picture will be looking a lot clearer.

Our next three games are pretty grim. We'll be lucky to see more than a point.

Southampton are beatable. They have off days and we have done quite well against them in recent years. I don't expect anything from Chelsea, but Southampton? Three points are there. Still no solid defence for them, and no Charlie Austin. And they only sing one song, half heartedly. 2-0.

Hull are the danger. They have 4 very winnable home games against West H, Middlesbrough, Watford and Sunderland.

No van Dijk either and potentially no Gabbiadini.

The day we finally beat Arsenal must be due? Surely?

The way I look at it, if we win 3 of our last 10 games, Hull will need to win 5 of their last 9 just to go above us.

I still see us getting a win against one of the big teams we still have to play, so it really all is in our hands.

I once saw us win and draw at Highbury within a week - and they were a good team then

37-41 looks around the range for staying up to me...hard to be sure because there are so many variables. And yeah, goal difference is an extra point.

Three things could help lower the target needed:

Hull losing their recently brilliant home form
Watford's implosion continuing
An end/reversal to Clement's bounce at Swansea

All three are very possible in my eyes.

It goes without saying that we must beat the teams around us and pick up ANYTHING we can against the top sides. Winning against the teams around us is going to be hellishly difficult.

And Spurs, given Spurs will be waning by then, if history is any guide.
