Ok hear me out guys pleasssse!!! North West girl here, supporting the boys for just over a year...or trying to!!! I dont claim to know everything about footy, in fact i had never been into the game at all until year and half or so. Dont laugh. I by chance heard the Holmesdale fans chanting, was intrigued and ended up watching a game and that was it! not missed one yet.
However, i see the term plastic forever cropping up....Im not a `real` fan as i dont go to the games, not real as i wasnt born and bred down South ( well yes i was but i moved up here unfortunately), but you get the idea.
Ok i cant get to the games, have a disabled child i care for that means i can`t just up and off even if i was lucky enough to get tickets to a game, so i watch when i can. Like every other fan out there i am on the edge of my seat ...my heart is in my mouth in the last few minutes. If they win i am elated..cheering... if they lose i am gutted...dont even speak to me for the rest of the day!!!
I wear the Palace shirt with pride, seen as a traiter by most up here amidst Liverpool and other northern team supporters but i dont care, i follow the boys and am proud to show it!!! I post on my page on FB every game cheering the guys on. No response as im on my own! but i dont care! My support is always there every game.
I have my own little Palace sanctuary.....the spare room, a tribute to the red and blues, my little bit of Selhurst up north.
What i`m trying to say here is please just give us newbies a bit of credit. Of course if i could i`d be at every game. Its my dream to see the guys play, but even then us newbies are slatered for wanting to take tickets that somebody thats a `true` fan could have!!!!
Just because i dont live down South and i wasn`t brought up supporting them doesnt make me any less a fan. I may not know all there is to know about footy but i love watching the guys and love supporting them. It took me months to master the league tables...but im learning and weather they win or lose i will always be behind them unlike sadly some of the so called `true` fans ive seen posting around forums slatering them..we cant expect wins all the time much as we`d love it and much as we need it at the moment.
Believe me its alot easier being a fan of a club where you live then it is for us outsiders as ive heard us called. Surely if i am prepared to support the lads no matter what flack i get off people for it then i earn the right to be called a real fan? Just because i dont know what inside leg Wilf is or what he last ate for lunch doesnt mean i am any less a `true` fan. Its about enjoying the game and supporting the lads surely and feeling that passion in your heart? being behind them no matter what.
Just saying....and one last thing. If i do get to Selhurst..bear in mind the short northern girl amongst you shouting her head off is a `True` fan even if she speaks funny!! x

so what determines a `True` fan then? x
