I am not at all sure about this. If we can find a system which can fit both Benteke and Defoe in then I would say we should go with it. It would be a huge upgrade on the Shipperley and Johnson combination of old. If we are going to play either or then Defoe would seem to be an expensive option.

Not for me if the wage and signing on fees banded around in the press are anywhere near the truth.

I'm sure Matteo could find better a better value bench warming striker than that!
Also if we are offering wilf 110 then no way is Defoe worth a better deal.

Quality proven goal scorer for 3-6m ?

Sounds like a bargain!

Obviously no resale value but if there was he'd cost us ten times that! With the same wage.

Sounds like peanuts to me.

Give him a two year contract and not have to worry about our forward line for two seasons. Total cost including wages approx £15m.

As Defoe is vegan, I would love him at the club

22 years eating a vegan diet. Perfectly happy and healthy on it.

For those negative about Defoe I genuinely can't understand this... even at 34 this gut is one of the most naturally gifted footballers of our generation for a goalscorer.

Honestly, strikers like Defoe don't come around very often, just like Kevin Phillips. No matter how old or what league he's playing in the guy will score goals for fun.

I would take him in a heartbeat.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Wash your mouth out. I was sick of reading about how we should be qualifying for Europe last closed season, solid progression is what we need.

A season without relegation woes please, that's all I'd ask!

The risk with Defoe is does he have another season in him? Since he scored against us in early Feb he has only managed one goal and that was a very off-side tap in.

He would be a very expensive bench warmer with no return on investment.

I suppose I would take him if his wage demands were a lot less than those advertised as he would give a good option off the bench if chasing a game.
