Out with a broken leg for what's left of the season. Won't help Bournemouth

Feel sorry for the lad, so much talent but unable to stay fit.

I know he's had some injuries in his career but seems like he's never really lived up to his potential. Think he believed his own hype a bit too much and has been a bit of a big time Charlie.

One of the most over rated players of his generation imo.

Without his injuries - and with an extended run in a PL side, I'm sure he would have lived up to his potential. Unfortunately, his injury record has meant that he was never able to.

Such a shame. F635 have a good article on him today: [Link]

Few people live up to the potential, in football or in life. Wheelchair is just another one of those players who's experience of injuries has probably meant he isn't going to play at the highest levels of the game.

Often I think potential is over prescribed to any young player who breaks through into an established top premiership club - With the assumption being that they're by default better than any kid breaking through elsewhere and have far more 'potential' as their inheritance of playing at Arsenal.

But really, at 17 or 18 was he significantly better than any other kids breaking through, such as Clyne for example.

It feels as though we get a lot more of these players with terrible injury records in England than elsewhere. Wayne Rooney, Gabby Agbonlahor, Andy Carroll, Daniel Sturridge, Kieran Gibbs, Theo Walcott, Luke Shaw, Daniel Welbeck, Phil Jones, Jack Wilshere all recent examples of players who have been around the England squad but had their careers massively hampered.

No Adam Johnson on your list

I suspect its roughly the same, how many people outside of the UK have even heard of
Gabby Agbonlahor or Andy Carroll as players with 'potential' (that potential really being freakishly fast and freakishly tall).

I suspect that there is a raft of young players who never quite fulfil the pundits 'claims of potential'.

Which is really any one who breaks through in the league to appear for their club. Maybe the issue is the pundits...

Apparently Zaha is only just 'living up to his potential'. He's only 24 - which is roughly when all players start to hit their career stride.

Personally, I think its that pundits just talk a lot of s**t to fill up the six days of a week when there is nothing to talk about.

he looked good in first few games for bournemouth then got a knock and then could not get regular games ,i think eddie howe has a very high standard of fitness with his players that he just could not manage now a broken leg it will be very tough for him to come back from that

Haha. I said injury record, he's got a different kind of record.

Just seems to me like the English have a lot more players who become extremely injury prone throughout their careers and I'm wondering if it's something to do with the way they are being developed when they are young. Again, not an Adam Johnson reference.
