What is our club getting from being in the PL?

Whilst as fans we obviously enjoy the thrill of the Prem, our relegation struggle this season has often led me to wonder - if we go down to the Championship what will we have to show for our years in the PL? Apart from enriching a select number of footballers and investors to an eye-watering amount. Let's face it, one week's salary to the highest earners in our squad would probably pay for a refurbishing of the Arthur's stinking toilets.
This is not a whinge against Parish as I think he does an amazing job and these are exciting times. It is just an honest question. I have heard that our training facilities have been improved? And we have new plastic seats. Where else have the hundreds of millions gone?

After our 4 seasons in the prem we're probably lucky to be up £50 mil or thereabouts. Add to that the US money which isn't a loan as they now own a share in the club.

To stay in the division you have to spend money. The longer you stay in the league the stronger and better looking the club gets. Money in the bank doesn't keep you up very long, just as signing players without any resale value doesn't either. There are strategies to our signings mostly. Look through the regulars and they're all worth money. There's a balance in signing players vs budgeting for developments and FFP. Parish has got things right IMO in that we keep staying up and have the dosh to do the main stand. We just do t have the planning permission.

The more long term we become the more confident we'll be of only needing to put aside a bit every year rather than a lot or fretting over signing a proven player who's more expensive than our usual.

I'd like us to not only provide top level academy facilities but also some sort of scouting network.

It takes money to build a squad to become established in the PL, which will have accounted for much of the cash. There was a fair amount spent on upgrades required for the TV and we've had two pitches and undersoil heating. As you say, there's been work done at Beckenham, and there's been some cosmetic and other relatively minor improvement to the ground. We're having to spend money this summer on disabled seating and access.

It's true that none of the promised major building works have yet got under way, which is why it's essential for us to remain in the PL so that the income, plus the US investment, can enable those to happen. If I had one criticism of Parish it is I wish he would just give us an unequivocal statement on exactly what is going on with regard to refurbishment of the ground, rather than the smoke and mirrors that he always resorts to when asked a direct question.

I think there's some ducking and diving needed in developing football grounds with councils. Recruiting former local council planning staff for example. The councils like this. I'm not sure whether that's odd or not. It's also better to have the shovel ready to plant in the ground before the local residents get the chance to object to the development of a football ground they moved in next to.

I'm sure there's an agreement to be had with sainsburys. They e redeveloped Redhill and Warlingham stores whilst Tesco let their's rust.
