This thread has been inspired by Sakho who for me would make one of the places at center half , probably alongside Jim Cannon .
What do you think .
Its not just how Sakho stops people , its his calm distribution of the ball and his awareness .
Also the best loan signing of any club ever .
Loan players normally barely do a job
He's been exceptional

I would rate him as one of the most gifted and classy players ever to have pulled on a Palace shirt.

I can only recall Attilio Lombardo exerting as much influence on a game as Mama.

I've witnessed the like of Cannon, McCormick,Blyth, Evans, Coleman, Young and I have to say that Mama, although not a Palace player as such, is easily the best I have seen.

I really do rate him as world class which, imo, none of the others were,

True, he cannot be called a Palace great; you have to have played regularly through thick and thin many a season but he really is the bee's bollocks, this one.

Asked my Dad this at the pub earlier. He's never seen a better centre half than Sakho. Trying to work out who'd we'd seen who was better and couldn't really come up with an answer !

Well, Willo, Stephenson was a much coveted player for us and soon had the inevitable big move so it's difficult to asses him as a Palace player.

Although the West Ham side of the time was a successful one in terms of the players in the squad, it was by no means top of the pile - nowhere near and Stephenson didn't really cut it on the international stage.

He never exhibited the leadership qualities of Cannon of Sahko either.

Stephenson played for us for over 5 years in the 60s and I think made over 150 apppearances for our club so plenty of time to assess him ! Ron Greenwood signed him for West Ham.
I am 65 in November - Stephenson must be in his 70s.
