Mariappa off the bench also sort of cost us, he had looked extremely poor that season when he did make an appearance, I think losing Dann and for Mariappa to come on did affect the players. If it were today and Dann or Kelly to come on for Sakho/Tomkins then it wouldn't have been such a blow.

Townsend vs Bolasie is an interesting one, Bolasie had a poor game that day but for me is still much better than Andros. BUT the Andros of today works so much harder for the team that it's feasible to say he would have played better in that final for us.

But are we also saying that Man United would have Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Bailly etc?

Yes, I also think he might have intended to use Adebayor but lost his third substitution to Dann's injury.

If we were playing that lot today of course Ibrahimovic would be injured.

I feel like that was the perfect blend of everything going right with the wrong man in charge that year.

If you think about what Pep and Jose will bring to the Manchester squads this summer, plus Chelsea's strength already, plus Arsenal being in the final 3 of the last 4 and you wonder when a little clubs gonna get another chance.

Last year Chelsea were shocking, City not far behind them, Leicester upsetting everybody and Arsenal having a rare early exit from the cup was a great chance that might not be repeated.

Coupled with us 'only' having to beat Spurs as true top class opposition on the way to the final we really looked a gift horse in the mouth last year.

1-0 up against an unsettled Man Utd, LVG's last game no matter what and a red car...where's our Manager? Oh, doing the Macarana down the touch line.

If that's Big Sam he throws on another defender and sits everyone back. A fat Rooney can't penetrate our defense and starts to kick out and scream before eventually the final whistle.

So in answer to original question, our squad (and Manager) a year ago would have won the cup. I just don't see how we get this squad and Manager into a FA Cup final over the next few years unfortunately.

I just remember the absolute tidal wave of emotions that afternoon when it was 1-1. That feeling of it being so close. One goal and it was ours. Crazy feelings.

When that first goal went in. The absolute euphoria. I was right at the back of the upper tier and complete strangers were hugging and kissing each other. For those few minutes the fa cup was ours and it was a magical feeling I will never forget

Yeah that would have been me. To be fair though I started doing that long before the goal went in, in fact probably before kick off!

Exactly as I was screaming from my seat the moment Puncheon scored his last goal for Palace. Organise, shape, tackle... then when won, celebrate.
If only we had the Kelly (of now), back then instead of Watford bound mariappa

No, he would not. He would've been making sure the team kept its shape and remained focused on keeping United away from our goal, instead of doing stupid dances and posing for the cameras.

Why on earth was he on the bench, what did he ever do at Palace, what has he done since. The only time he tried in a match was the last match at Southampton.. Good riddance!! Upset the dressing room with high wages and no commitment!!
