He's 65 and ridiculously wealthy. He has a family and grandchildren. He has given his working life to football. Who would not want to take time away, retire and enjoy the fruits of their labours. I am very sad he has left; two years with BS would really consolidate CPFC. But now SP and his colleagues have to find a replacement and since CPFC 2010 arrived my faith is in SP first and foremost. Who it will be ...... who knows ...... but Wilf is No 1 priority (and SP knows that) thereafter defense and the rest. COYP!
Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |

These clubs plan ahead of time when they're going to kick out a manager and line up a replacement. We lurch from crisis to crisis. End result is the same - quick changes but continued relative success.

It would not surprise me if we went for Hodgson who has worked with Lee before and probably would be happy to again. I actually wouldnt mind this. His experience should keep us in the league for another season or two while we build up the kitty for the ground redevelopment Would be happy with this

Thank you, Sam. Now to look for another manager. [Link] “In some ways this has been a very difficult decision to make, but in others it has been a simple one,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday evening. “I will always be grateful to Crystal Palace and Steve Parish for giving me the opportunity to go out with my head held high having helped keep the club in the Premier League. More than that, they gave me a chance of rebuilding my reputation after what happened with England. I felt I needed another shot at being a Premier League manager and Palace gave me the chance of rehabilitation. “That’s why it’s hard walking away now. I think the club are heading in the right direction with a hugely supportive board of directors, a great squad of players and some of the most passionate fans I’ve ever met. It’s been a privilege to have worked here for the past five months. But there comes a time when you have to take stock of what direction you want your life to take, and that’s been the simple part for me. “I want to be able to savour life while I’m still relatively young and when I’m still relatively healthy enough to do all the things I want to do, like travel and spend more time with my family and grandchildren without the huge pressure that comes with being a football manager. This is the right time for me. I have no ambitions to take another job. I simply want to be able to enjoy all the things you cannot really enjoy with the 24/7 demands of managing any football club, let alone one in the Premier League.”

Really shocked, thought big Sam was going to be with us at CPFC for many years to come.. but I can understand why, personal life is far more important.. people trying to blame Steve Parish already but if they read Big Sam's statement it was purely down to him wanting to "retire".. a big thank you to Big Sam I wish him well and thank him for what he achieved for our club.. COYP.. another thought, how about Sammy Lee taking the reins?..

That's how you leave a club with your integrity intact. Good on him - not many would have got us out of the relegation scrap. It's a shame - just as we seem to have got things sorted......the old Palace rollercoaster start up again! its never dull is it!

Hope we make an inspired choice for manager Continuing that list: Lombardo/Mancini, Moyes or Karanka. If Silva went back to Porto, then perhaps we go for Jovanovic? Failing that I hope SP finds a gem from the continent. I really can't think of any decent British managers who are available.
