Some players arrive with hype, others arrive with little expectations after failings at previous clubs or injuries records. What signings did you originally think would be a disaster but turned out better.

For me it has to be Andy Johnson, there was little or no expectations before his arrival and to replace Clinton Morrison in terms of structure and goals was always gonna be hard.

What your past Palace signings that surprised you ?

Andy Johnson Magic, He wears a Magic Hat
When he Sees the match ball, he says he having that
He scores one with left foot, he scores one with his right
And When his playing Brighton, He scores all f***ING Night!

Yeah aj under those circumstances. Paul stewart
Dunno why. Never liked him at spurs. We loaned him from them or Liverpool and he was another class at the time. I began to love him. Tho not in that sense

I get what you saying. Also when we signed mcarthur, I thought why the hell do we want him and apart from the beginning of 2017. He's been fantastic. Maybe because he came from Wigan.

More recently, had zero expectation from Bolasie. But yes, AJ was clearly the bigger surprise. <Willo> If I remember he was something like a £250k makeweight for Morrison going to Birmingham </Willo>

Also didn't really expect much from Jedi when he signed.

The list of players we have signed that surprised me how sh*t they were is too long to post!

On the positive I would have to say Dougie Freedman. I really didn't expect much and he turned out to be one of my all time favs.

That's got my mind going back a bit further. Don't expect many of us were expecting Ian Wright to turn out like he did.

I would put forward Henry Hughton who played in probably the worst Palace side in my days. He couldn't score in a brothel but always tried his hardest. The post team of the 80's years were tough to stomach - especially if like me you were going home and away back then

Jordan Mutch crept up on me in a Sainsbury's local while I was getting some fizzy fangs. Proper surprised me.

Some arrive with oranges for half time and a warm flask of tea.
