Not contributing to meat consumption is one of the side-benefits that I like about being vegetarian. The meat industry is a major producer of pollution and greenhouse gases (yes, including cow farts) in addition to being a major cause of deforestation of the rain forests.

Feeding the human population meat is an unsustainable model economically, ecologically and logistically. I used to enjoy a nice steak, but now we eat meat as a staple of every meal and that's a pattern that's spreading to the most populous parts of the world - like China and India - whose diet was previously mostly vegetarian. We don't need that much meat in our diet for our individual health. We don't need any, in fact.

No. It's demand from an ever increasing and prosperous population.
And you are still happy to see this countries population grow 300k a year through immigration.

Animal agriculture, the whole process of eating meat, is the main cause of global warming, more than all forms of transport combined. If anyone cares about people, animals, the planet or their health they should really think about the food they are eating.

If the world population is going to rise as projected people need to be fed.

This can't be done using natural processes.

Technology and political will needs to solve the population crises.

A vegetarian/vegan diet will feed the whole world. We kill 60 billion animals every year. There are 7 billion people on the planet. Many of those, even in England, cannot get enough food to eat. None, or very few farmed animals ever goes hungry, in fact they are more often overfed. How can we justify feeding animals instead of people? The meat industry is destroying the planet, killing animals and giving food to animals while people are starving. Who allows this to happen? It's not governments or the meat industry, it's us.

If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend "What the Health" (availabe on Netflix in the US at least) as a study on how the food industry lobbies government and pays non-government health organisations to lie to us, and how we are not only better off eating a vegan diet (like not getting cancer better off), we're actually physiologically meant to.

I'm vegetarian - not vegan - because I have some dairy (yogurt, cheese and eggs) in my diet. I try to keep them to a minimum, but it's hard to eat out as a full vegan. Of course, this is a chicken and egg situation - if you pardon the analogy - because restaurants will provide better vegan options if the demand is there.
