Just read this article revisiting his spell with us, thought it might be of interest

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

I do not think I have ever seen a more talented player in a Palace shirt.
I never saw Johnny Byrne at his best so that's where I am coming from. I saw Don Rogers , Kenny Sansom and from there. I know there are many others and some will say he never played enough for us, but just watching him when he did was just magical at times.
Effortless.

Didn't have Zahas tricks but he had an air of magical about him. It was like end of matrix when he knew he was the one and the bad guys no matter how good they were... Couldn't keep up with him. He literally was world class.

Likewise, started supporting Palace in 1972 for Don Rogers' very first game and was priveliged to witness his previously unappreciated, obvious ball skills, over the course of his time with us. And then the next season in Div2, Don R in tandem with the sublime wing play of Peter Taylor. And when he left unwisely for Tottenham (like sadly poor John Bostwick), the outrageous goals of Rachid Harkouk (remember him) are some of my fondest abiding memories.

Kenny S, when he was only 2nd choice LB in the England U21s to the LB (does anyone even remember him) for WBA then a Div 1 team and us in Div3. The much respected, loyal Matt Jansen, AJ and Glenn M, all supreme entertainers in their own unique way.

Attilio L was not any more talented than any of the few mentioned above, but was certainly the cleverest and most skilfull to ever wear the shirt and I consider myself lucky to see him ply his trade at our modest club. What price would he command in today's market? Or for that matter any of the above in their prime.

This little club of ours, has , over the years, given us memories most unexpected. In the Palace way, both in good times and in bad, long may this continue.
