decided to frustrate myself and rewatch the lowlights.

couple of thoughts:

*dann should have buried his chance. you can't miss that.
*1st goal was disgusting. who was at fault? everyone except WH.
*2nd goal. even more disturbing than the 1st. WH rightly angry. no one marked. just awful.
*breakaway saved by F-M: terrible giveaway. WH would have conceded. no doubt.
*3rd goal: me and 10 random fellows from the street could have defended that better. and i'm not in too good of shape.
* WZ: seemed as the attacking gameplan was to just pass the ball to him and hope he makes something happen. if you're playing possession football, then maybe pass it around and get better looks. or create opps for benteke. no idea what they were trying to accomplish.

watching the goals, WH actually can't be blamed for any of it. maybe he had the best game. i'm not his biggest supporter but i don't see what else he could have done.

You would have needed ten of them? A couple of drunks plus my cat should have sufficed.

They attacked us (often physically) and didn't let us settle
We played out from the back but then played it back to Wayne giving them a throw in
We looked at times like we did under Pards when we were at our least fit
Half the team didn't seem to know the basics
We had no midfield
The ref allowed us to be kicked off the park
FdB had no idea

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

What went wrong?

I'm a simpleton when it comes to football tactics and formations (no, that's not false modesty, it's the truth). But it did strike me that if our players could have passed to each other, we would have fared rather better. Yes, I know Huddersfield were pressing us very hard, but the reason why players are in the Premiership is that even under pressure they can still pass to a team-mate - at least sometimes, and not just from the goalie to an unmarked defender. Is this what all the posters have in mind who say our players aren't skilful enough to play FdB's system? Is that what it comes down to - can't pass?

I can't remember watching a Palace team that could pass accurately: it just doesn't seem to be our thing. Maybe the so-called team of the 80s possibly, but perhaps that's my memory playing tricks.

Make out your cat is Dutch and Frank may pay you a couple of million for him.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the footage from the game, but spoke to dad tonight who went to the pre-season friendly against Schalke.

He said the our play was so slow, and that the new style just exposed those that had poor control, and infact one of those was Benteke but we simply have no other option.

Unless we spend alot of money then this simply won't work.

We are spending a lot of money every week on wages to players that cant even control a football under pressure. So spending money doesn't work, we are paying out averagely £50k a week each to players, who cant pass comfortably.
God knows where it went wrong to end up in this situation?

It's called being in the Premier League, overpaying anyone that plays for you!!!

Your dad was right,we need to stop kidding ourselves that we have a good squad of players. If we intend to change our style of play to a more possession style we need a complete root and branch change of personnel to achieve it.
This is why any manager who likes to play in that style shies away from coming to us i.e Pelegrino,De Silva and Eddie Howe before them.If we are not prepared to do this we should have appointed Sean Dyce.

Parish (wrongly IMO) didn't show much interest in Silva and Pellegrino wanted the Southampton job more. Frank probably did as well. Who wouldn't? Parish quickly announced Frank 24 hours before Southampton officially announced Pellegrino.

My opinion then was both clubs hired the wrong man, only it was Southampton's call, and will damage them less.

Looks as though Frank intended to play 3-4-3 at whichever club, ideally Southampton, but 'This year it's Crystal Palace' is what he said.

Good luck to him. Hopefully it works or he realises it won't and variations of 4-5-1 etc or maybe 3-5-2 will.

they were pressing hard, making the passing difficult. BUT, that doesn't explain the defensive lapses, on set pieces no less. just awful. luka's mistakes.

when they had 2 or 3 defenders pushing on wilf, where was the help? he was on an island. i just don't understand a plan where you have one guy who is supposed to do it all. surely others were available for a pass. surely townsend and some of the others can work through huddersfield's defense.

just awful. if FDB stubbornly clings to this, he's not going to make it to november.
