I don't see any comparative data with other social constructs Nick. I also don't buy the idea that Corporations have no regard for the wellbeing of their employees. I don't see any comparative data with other social constructs Nick. I also don't buy the idea that Corporations have no regard for the wellbeing of their employees.

Furthermore Marx's description of alienation was surely of its time, things move on.

Personally, like Montesquieu, I blame it on the weather.

Does choosing the cheaper option of cladding or lax building controls come under the auspices of capitalism?

There's plenty in the teaching/social work who have time off through stress or mental illness.

Who knows what kinds of PTSD firefighters at Grenfell will have. Does choosing the cheaper option of cladding or lax building controls come under the auspices of capitalism?

As our knoledge of Psychology improves every day so increases the amount of humans who's minds we now realize have gone a little astray, nothing has changed, there are not more people in relation to population who are becoming unwell..it is just purely because we can now identify problems a lot better.

I dont think that you can just point the finger at others and blame the system... we are the ones consuming things and competing with one another. If people choose a different way then the capitalist system falls down. It can only exist because of people's choices. Yes the people in power have made it such that it is difficult not to buy into the system and work the 9 - 5 to keep the roof over your head but they cant force anyone to make choices they dont want to. It wont take one person but until enough people decide that capitalism and consumerism are not what they want then we'll continue to live under this system whether it is beneficial for our health or not. Maybe it's people that are basically sick, greedy and selfish and our own collective sickness is reflected in the capitalist world that we live in. Man is the most insane species. Chicken and egg.
Do you believe that more people have time off for mental issues in these professions because they are more stressful than other jobs, or because it's 'easier' to do in those environments? Genuine question and I don't know the answer, but it seems to be self-fulfilling to a degree: if people know of others in the workplace who have had time off for these conditions, are they not far more likely to go down that route themselves, since the barriers are already down?

Having worked in Communist countries, they weren't happy places and even now they don't handle mental illness well. They also were highly prone to doing things on the cheap, I would not assume Grenfell couldn't have happened in Ukraine or Bulgaria.

whilst I don't agree with the way Hedgehog puts things, I believe it's impossible to tell whether Capitalism is a worse system than any other.

Having worked in Communist countries, they weren't happy places and even now they don't handle mental illness well. They also were highly prone to doing things on the cheap, I would not assume Grenfell couldn't have happened in Ukraine or Bulgaria.
