Stoke City? They were in a real mess at the start of last season because seemingly they couldn't keep their hands to themselves and defend at the same time when the new rules came in that said fouls in the box were now fouls even if the opponent isn't United. They scored against us in the last minute after we had put four past them, but I can't remember if they were goalless after three games. And I can't be arsed to look it up What about Chelsea the season before that? They were toilet until they sacked Murinho (whereupon of course they then had us at home and guess what). Can't remember that they were as bad as this, though. There are I guess examples of teams that started the season impressively and subsequently got relegated, or nearly. We nearly did it the season before last, were fifth at Christmas or something and ended up clinging on by our fingernails. Edited by chateauferret (27 Aug 2017 1.50pm)

Here you go Aston Villa 1997/8 finished 7th Pretty amazingly, Southampton have done it 5 times and only been relegated once

Interesting stat, but I think you mean teams who lost their first three matches without scoring. Boro in 2001/2 lost their first 4, but scored in their 4th game.
