Amazon Echo.

I would like one but I have a Sonos system and am waiting for Sonos to announce their compatibility with the Echo / Alexa before I get one. It was supposed to have been out earlier this year

I have an Echo Dot which I absolutely love.

The Sonos integration has been promised and there's a beta of the "skill" out now from what I've read so I'd certainly recommend it.

I have it set up to turn my TV and sounbar on and off, it can control my heating (I have smart heating with Heat Genius), I'll be getting smart bulbs from Ikea this year too and I've managed to get it to control my home media centre (Kodi).

At the moment, I've also got Google Home on it so I can have the best of both worlds.

Go for it I say!

Good news re Sonos and Echo. Must be released now or imminent as there is a big billboard ad at Victoria station where the buses are

I promise I'm not being facetious; just generally curious. This Echo thingy turns your TV and sound bar on and off. How is that better than using the remote control(s)?

You talk to Echo which saves you having to get up and get the remote control / switch the lights on or off or adjust the heating.

It also does far more as you can tell it to play a particular track or album

It's more about having a single hub that can do it all. The tv, soundbar and tv box have 3 remotes so this cuts that down. Handy when the kids lose a remote too.

Honestly though, I like it because it is futuristic. The mrs hates it!

Then all you have to do is say "Echo - can you please put the p*** channel on"

I've had a Logitech Harmony remote for years that switches on the TV, AV amp, Sky Box with one button press although I can't talk to it
