Alternative Media in response to censorship

In recent times we have had the usual fans of centralised approved thought control pressure the most popular media sites like FB, YouTube, Twitter and so on to conform to their requirements. So we get politicians talking of harassment and bullying. We get advertisers.....looking to remove their ads from anything controversial and hence disincentive anything controversial being said or shown. We get the media companies themselves designing search algorithms to ignore channels they don't like and produce the results they approve of. Essentially it's about control and approved attitudes....what is appropriate.....Well, good luck with that but I'll make my own mind up thank you very much. In response to these control attempts we have new media sites gaining popularity who don't buy into these free speech restrictions and financial disincentive practices. You have Minds.com [Link] This site is a mixture of several of these media types and has had a bright beginning. My favourite YouTube alternative so far is BitChute. I'm sure there are others but both of these reject the current moralisation and centralization attempts of those who seek to sanitize and engineer how you should feel and think about topics. I'm fine with the sensitive types staying in Disney land and not having anything bad being said to them.....Those types just please stay away from these new media forms. I quite like the Young Turks Network - Clearly they're progressives and have bias, but they're also surprisingly willing to be honest and give credit where credit is due (the host is an ex-Republican, but not really too keen on the Democrats) Notable is he really has an issue with Trump. But they were pretty harsh on Hilary Clinton.

Although I think its more influence than control - I don't think any of those institutions really have the capacity to control anyone. Only people who have surrendered their personal agency believe they have free will.

Yes, it is the available technology which make the 'mind control' more pervasive although as you say, the principle is not new.

And I agree, that most of us are happy to blindly follow the pied piper as most of us aren't that political....lots only notice when it affects them directly. However, whenever there is a drive to censor thought there will be a push to break through it.....but it's small at first......You see how societies like China and Russia's have a citizenry that is scared to voice discord from its leaders.....they have essentially taken freedom of away...especially China where their rejection of individualism is so extreme. If you mean Cenk he comes across as pretty progressive to me....I watched the Young Turks on election night....it's was like right wing p*** watching that crazy bird lose her s***. Regardless, I also watched Cenk debate Shapiro recently and I have to admit, I was pretty much in agreement with Cenk on most of the debate points....quite amusing really....but red in tooth and claw republicanism isn't for me neither...then again the republicans aren't the ones closing down speeches and marching in black blocks. Cenk was an arsehole over Sam Harris.....but I think he's a far more sensible voice on other topics than he gets credit for. The young turks is a good alternative media platform for the progressive left and on that score I support it.....I'm not one of those people who wants to destroy the advocacy of non violent opinions I differ from. I think it's healthy. We shouldn't as a society ignore different approaches and it's by debate and compromise that the rational actors amongst us can make progress. The trolls can be trolls....and that's ok...but they aren't interested in anything other than the playground.

If you aren't suggesting that hitting people is a good thing or are deliberately and provably lying about someone or pushing explicit sexuality onto those not looking for it.....well.....you should be free to do what you want without consequence.
