With what is going on with Jared O'Mara being hauled over the coals for past discressions on social media...should he be kicked out what would it mean for the aspiring labourites that have been venting their spleans on social media in the last few years? I'd like there to be some sense with this sort of thing and perhaps a statute of limitations be considered for wreckless and mindless posting... What are others thoughts? You are joking? I don't know how I ended up in this bubble but I literally have to disagree (only in my own head, otherwise I would spend my life arguing) with 95% of posts on Facebook. The only person I frequently agree with is a Conservative voting Muslim (benefits his business interests). You've seen the utter bile that comes from all their (voters but occasionally MPs) keyboards and somehow now this idiot's crude and juvenile historic posts of the sort you'd see on here are finally enough to get him booted. I've seen people praise those lads who drew Swastikas on a Conservative MP's campaign posters, in my own extended FB circle. I'm not actually going to bother with political debate on there any more, I'll just take the cop-out option of simply taking issue with people being tw@ts because it's rare people actually put up and maintain an adult argument, even in real life. So no, there a plenty of people on social who only see in red or blue and will defend any member of the party, whitewashing and redirecting the original offence. I don't know how I ended up in this bubble but I literally have to disagree (only in my own head, otherwise I would spend my life arguing) with 95% of posts on Facebook. The only person I frequently agree with is a Conservative voting Muslim (benefits his business interests).

You've seen the utter bile that comes from all their (voters but occasionally MPs) keyboards and somehow now this idiot's crude and juvenile historic posts of the sort you'd see on here are finally enough to get him booted.

I've seen people praise those lads who drew Swastikas on a Conservative MP's campaign posters, in my own extended FB circle.

I'm not actually going to bother with political debate on there any more, I'll just take the cop-out option of simply taking issue with people being tw@ts because it's rare people actually put up and maintain an adult argument, even in real life.

So no, there a plenty of people on social who only see in red or blue and will defend any member of the party, whitewashing and redirecting the original offence.

There is no freedom of speech, without responsibility. People should be accountable for what they say, and judged by it (admittedly not in a court of law). You've just summed General Talk up in a nutshell there.

On a site which exists because of red and blue, many only view the world through one or the other and have forgotten the basics.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

People say stupid things. People write stupid things. To then drag them up later and use it as categorical proof that person is racist (or any other ist) is disingenuous at best. Think of the case of MPs who have changed parties (Tory to Labour for the purposes of the example) - you wouldn't use their words praising Tory policy as proof they are still a Tory would you? Words of the time, stupid sometimes, less than honest other times, says nothing about the person other than what was going on at that precise moment they wrote/said it

As an aside, even Southern Rail are cottoning on to the need to keep certain people with prejudices separate. I was on a train the other day that had an entire section of the carriage with "Ist" on the windows and headrests. The people within didn't appear to be obviously sexist, ageist, Marxist or racist, although they did have an air of elitist about them. Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.
