Was on TalkSport earlier ruling himself out of the Everton job as they were hesitating offering him the gig.

Couldn't get away quick enough on the pretence of health, family time, Manchester bombing and any other bullsh*t excuse he could muster.

At least this time round we won't have to take an ex manager to court to claw back money owed, does that make him a better person than Iain Dowie & Tony Pulis or is he just another arrogant bellend?

Excuse me if I misunderstood but he ruled himself out, right? He hasn't considered any of the various Premiership jobs that have come up. He has considered but so far not taken any of the various international jobs and may end up with the USA, but this is an entirely different kind of commitment.

How is this a "sham"?

I don't recall Allardyce mentioning health, Manchester bombings etc as the reason for leaving our club.

His message was that after years of 24/7 365 days a year club management he felt it was time to step back from club football and felt that International football would be more to his liking.

Oh I see. So in your world you retire for a few months then go back to work? Righto.

*edit* You can have a link as well. Notice the use of the word 'unfortunately'

So I imagined him quitting a few hours after, saying that he re-evaluated life and wanted to travel and spend time with his family whilst he was still in relatively good health?

*edit* In fact, direct quotes here, I see no mention of being an International manager, he said he wanted to get away from management. Unless of course you know better.

In my world a man who makes a decision to go in one direction and then decides he doesn't like it is free in due course to choose another direction if he wishes to. I have done this three or four times and would have been most unhappy had I been stuck with decisions that turned out to be bollocks. Perhaps you live in the Soviet Union.

We have a saying up here: "Ye can tak' the boy oot a Castlemulk, but ye cannae tak' Castlemulk oot a the boy". (Castlemilk is a particular district of Glasgow). I would think that football will always be pulling at him to get him back and that any absence, however sensible and objectively right it may appear, will be hard for a man so wedded to it to endure.

I agree, as I wrote elsewhere 'Sam may have felt we were going to be the last club for him but as the time has gone on he has 'felt the bug' to be back in football again especially when the season started.'

In life people change their mind all the time.

I say good luck to Sam if he goes back to management either club or country for what he did for us last season.

It was a different tune when someone wanted to go up North but changed their mind and ended up down the road.

Fun times.

I can understand the sentiments expressed.

I can totally understand why someone who has just been through a strenuous relegation battle would think that after some 20 years in management where one is under pressure 24/7 365 days a week would wish to 'Call it a day' and perhaps only return to management at International level but then having had a period of relaxation and reflection finds a club job at a club like Everton somewhat enticing.

He'll have no hard feelings from me whatever he chooses to do. Kept us up against all odds and then quit right at the start of summer to give us the best possible chance of getting a replacement in time to make this season a success which we unfortunately couldn't do.

Who cares? Good luck to him. Sport especially Boxing I may add is littered with people who've 'retired'only to come back a while later. Also like some of the other posters have mentioned he maybe looking more at an International job than a domestic one. I guess only time will tell.
