I think the performance of ref's in this day and age is appalling. And think the FA should set up a rotating board attending by duty premier managers, to assess each referee performance maybe bi-weekly/Monthly to asses there performance. With a system similar to the yellow/red card for players. Meaning if a performance by a referee is deemed to be below an acceptable standard they should receive a yellow card if they reach 4 yellows they should receive a 2 match ban and no salary for that period. If a performance is so poor that it effects the result it should be a red card and an automatic ban for 2 to 3 matches. If that was adopted the refereeing would soon improve or those repeatedly offending should be dropped in standard Thoughts and opinions please Edited by Medway Eagle (13 Dec 2017 3.53pm)

Ther ARE answerable for their decisions and actions as part of the post match 'Forensic' vigorous assessments of their match performance. It really is detailed scrutiny using the match coverage and 'ProZone'. Referees are assessed not only for their technical performance but their match management and their decision making. Willo makes a fair point. But is it time for the assessments to be made public? At the moment, the information is kept under wraps.

Yes, it is, same as all info on players, clubs, county & national assoc. It is the same in the business & commerce world too, 'what you don't know, wont harm you' In response to the OP & in agreement with Willo here, having been an assessor for 6 years, EVERY match official in the top 9 tiers are assessed every game IF, a match official is deemed to fall below certain standards they are put into a lower league till those standards are brought back up. With the 'Elite' group, there are 30 professional Officials....10 in the middle, 10 as 4th official & the other 10 either hols/away/lower lge appointments. Hope this helps to explain what goes on.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Please look up the following words in a dictionary: "Accountable" "Assessed" and tell me whether you still think they mean the same thing.

I am happy that one can be "Accountable" and be "Assessed" at the same time. Dear me - 'Semantics' or just another English lesson. My views on this subject have been well documented and I stand 'Four square' behind them.

I think it will be excellent when they have more video reviews and, Clattenburg aside - who now appears to have admitted to what we have always accused him of - they don’t deliberately make errors. Having said that they are guilty of pre-judging players (Zaha, Andy Johnson) and hopefully they will be under a lot of pressure to ensure this doesn’t happen, as video reviews will really put any poor decisions in the full glare of public scrutiny.

how easy is it to be promoted/demoted to/from elite ref status? sometimes I wonder if the closed-door nature of the PL as a franchise has created issues with the quality of reffing.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
